Oil? for Dry Damaged Hair

I'm wondering what is the best hair oil for dry damaged hair? I've tried loads of different ones and nothing seems to help, by lunch time my hair is dry and frizzy again at the ends. My hair is very straight so just the ends that are frizzy. I have regular hair cuts but it doesnt seems to make much difference. Is hair oil even the answer? I use the dry damaged shampoo and conditioner and a hair mask once a week but my hair is just awful. Any ideas?

The best oil to apply on dry hair for frizz is pure argan oil however I would look into keratin treatment or hair botox which you can buy the kit for and DIY yourself.
I use coco palmer protein hair mask which also helps. Aussie brand is good too for frizz.

Argan oil tends to strip the colour from my hair. Mine is very dry, I always wear a hat in this sunny weather as the sun dries it out even more. Keen to read what others use.

@FlorianImogen I've tried the argan oil and it did strip colour from my hair too. I always tie my hair up and wear a hat in the sun too :)

@Edwardoo I'll have a look at keratin too thanks. I did used to use the tresamee keratin treatment which didnt do much.

I use the palmers coconut shampoo and conditioner for dry hair as its the only one that doesnt knot my hair and I can comb it after washing.

I've spent a fortune over the years on hair products. Just hoping theres some miracle product which will work.

Regarding argan oils, I'm not sure they strip the colour as such, more that it adds colour, as argan oil is dark so over time can effect your colour. I definitely notice this, but it's the only oil that seems to moisturise my hair after conditioners. I just have to get regular toners.

I would highly recommend Wella hair masks. Make sure your hair is towel dry before applying, use a generous amount and leave on for as long as you can. Not cheap, but definitely worth it if you can stretch to it. Also, when styling, try to flick your hair out or under at the ends. Poker straight can often look a bit straw like at the end.

@SnBLurkerAh I never knew that about the argan oil. I used to have bright red hair and when I used that it would fade very quickly.

I dont think I've used the Wella ones, I'll have a look for those, thank you

@summersolstice43 it's the Fusion, Intense Repair mask that I use.

My hair sounds very similar.

About 6 months ago I started making my own hair masks (I have scalp psoriasis so can't use mainstream hair mask products) and my ends have drastically improved (as well as my psoriasis).

If you have a blender/food processor I would definitely give it a try and see how you get on 😊 absolutely worth it!

Avocado, kiwi, olive oil, squeeze of honey.
Natural yoghurt, honey, egg and olive oil (don't need a food processor for this one and might be a good place to start to try)

Just make the mask, apply to hair and pop a shower cap on. I love the results every time, shiny hair and reduced frizz, improved my hair strength and growth. I wouldn't ever go back now 😊

Avocado in your hair gives such unreal results, definitely give it a try!

I also use Johnson's baby vitamin E shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner and this keeps my hair really healthy and smooth.

Let me know if you try it! 😊 x

@EmzyC Thats great, thank you. I'll definitely give it a go as I do prefer the natural remedies with no or little chemicals in them. I am popping out grocery shopping later on too so I'll make sure I pick up an avocado while I'm there :)

You're welcome 😊 it's definitely changed my hair and can't believe just how much. Stick a kiwi on your list too! Kiwis are packed with vitamin E 😊

Superdrug sell the Johnsons baby vitamin E shampoo, conditioner and leave it conditioner. Baby shampoo uses very few chemicals and are really gentle on hair, vitamin E is great for hair and would highly recommend.

Hope it helps lovely ☺️ x

Yes to avocado for a deep treatment!
I have a once yearly organic keratin straightening or hair botox and it works wonders. The rest of the time I use the OGX Brazilian keratin shampoo and conditioner, and only wash my hair when it really needs it, often once a week. That stops it drying out too much. Argan oil on the ends also helps.

summersolstice43 · 15/07/2022 12:05

@EmzyC Thats really helpful thank you. I'll pop into Superdrug too. I've not used Johnsons since my daughter was a baby many years ago :)

@Justcannot I've seen the OGX products and used their coconut oil which was quite good but not perfect. I try not to wash my hair too much and tie it up on days it needs washing but its very unruly. Maybe I just need to cut it all off 😂
