Where have all the small bottles of shampoo gone?

I was in Boots at the weekend stocking up on toiletries for an upcoming holiday. Went to get some shampoo and conditioner, not particularly bother about the brand, but all the bottles were 400-500ml in size. I've since tried Sainsburys and Asda and it's the same there, huge bottles or tiny minis. Pantene etc definitely used to sell 200ml (ish) bottles but I can't find them anywhere. Where have they all gone?

I agree. I had to decant into small bottles when I last went away for a few days.

Airport Boots stocks them if your airport has a Boots store.

I'm not flying so need to buy before I go. I could buy a load of minis but then that's a big waste of plastic. I wonder if only selling large bottles is a way to reduce packaging but it's a right pain when you just need enough for a holiday.

Buy yourself one of those bags from home bargains, etc, that contains 5 bottles and pots. The bottles are 100ml. Decant your shampoo from a 500ml bottle into the 100ml bottles. I think they cost £1. Much cheaper than buying minis.

Buy some of these and decant a bit of shampoo and a bit of conditioner.

Definitely decant

I actually think for the environment everything should be sold in 1 litre bottles as far as possible

Even better if it was refillable

I'm sick of the millions of choices on shampoos - you can literally use any one, they're all the same - it's conditioner that makes the difference

maddy68 · 14/07/2022 16:40

Just buy it when you get there or from boots at the at airport when you've gone through security

gogohmm · 14/07/2022 16:42

Bought 200ml size in Lidl today

AnchorWHAT · 14/07/2022 16:49

Buy a shampoo and a conditioner bar, better than plastic, last forever and take up less space, no chance of leaks either.

TattiePants · 14/07/2022 16:53

I'll check Lidl first as someone recommended their aerosol suntan lotion, if not, I'll get a few 100ml empty bottles to decant my usual stuff into.

@LaurieFairyCake I've just spotted that my usual Kerastase shampoo is now available in a stainless steel bottle that's refillable.

Feel unique sell deluxe sample sizes.

myuterusistryingtokillme · 14/07/2022 16:54

Savers is often pretty good too

NightmareSlashDelightful · 14/07/2022 16:56

Far fewer people have been flying the last couple of years, until relatively recently, so production of these mini bottles ramped right down for a while because no one was buying them.

I have to agree with this, saves so much space on packing! Or even just a shampoo bar and take your normal conditioner?

Try to make your own shampoo on collected herbs

And what? Butter?

KirstenBlest · 14/07/2022 18:51

I disagree @LaurieFairyCake , I am currently using an expensive sulfate-free shampoo and it doesn't seem to clean my hair.

I agree about the conditioner. Some are better than others.

I use the refillable 100 ml bottles and use a permanent marker to write on it what it is after accidentally washing my hair with face wash that did a better job than the £££ shampoo

FourChimneys · 14/07/2022 19:52

I have had a couple of empty Body Shop bottles for about 15 years. I just refill them from the larger bottles.

I've tried a couple of shampoo bars and didn't like them. I'll try a different one when DD comes to stay as she uses them.

thinkfast · 14/07/2022 20:01

Shampoos are definitely not all the same. I have to be really careful which ones I use or a get bad excema on my scalp.
