Where do I start?

Mid 50s, have never worn any make up, except to weddings etc. look horrendous in photos very pasty, so I’ve decided to try make up. Bought an ELF foundation but I put it on yesterday and it seemed to kind of go dry and look flaky. I had moisturizer on. What brands are good for older skin? I also have the worst hooded eyelids ever, can’t even see my eyelashes as the lids nearly cover them, so I don’t think I can do anything with my eyes, they look like slits in photos. I’ve only once had my eyebrows done, I’m just a disaster. I looked at YouTube but just overwhelming 😢 Where do I start?

Have a look at beautyandtheboutique.com/ it has a great make up, no make up tutorial and great products.

Go and have a Bobbi brown makeover, or some other good brand like Laura Mercier

Avoid Clinique

I like the products but they are everywhere and the counter staff are crap

Mac, Nars - both also good

Moisturiser, then a good primer, I like smash box photo finish.
Then a dab of concealer under eyes, which is best to do at each point under eye and a fab further down in middle like a triangle.

Use a damp make up sponge to blend in across face, then use same sponge to put on foundation. I find if you squeeze the sponge in toilet roll it removes much more excess water and dabbing your sponge over your hand to remove excess product tends to give a better finish snd less 'cakey' when it oxidises.

No7 are good for starter foundations and you can get quite light, liquidy ones.

Foundation is a tough place to start!
Needs to be something light weight.
Don't use too much.
Don't try to rub it in. You want to lightly apply it and blend it with a gentle touch until it's even.
Tinted moisturiser might be easier. Use a brush to apply it if possible.
It will look weird and flat if you don't wear other makeup with it ie a little blush, some mascara.

I agree with others that a trip to a beauty counter for some advice and recommendations would be sensible. Many are free. Those that charge will let you redeem the cost against products.

Good luck!
Don't be too hard on yourself!

Go to a beauty counter! Go in, play vulnerable, beg for help and guidance, everyone loves a project!

im shit at makeup, but everyday wear nars light foundation, blended in with fingertips. Nars beauty stick gor cheeks and lids (recommended on this board thank you), mascara and glossy (not sticky) lip balm!
