Can I return something to Selfridges if I didn't purchase it from there?

I ordered some Skims and I don't really like them. To return them back to the US is gonna cost a fair few quid. I just noticed Selfridges have a Skims department - would they do a refund or even an exchange there? This might be a stupid question but worth a try.

I very much doubt it

Definitely not sorry

Only thing that might work is if you go in and try and return them saying you've lost the receipt. If they were to actually accept them they would only issue you with a gift card to spend in the store. You'd never get money back.

I think you'd be better off trying to sell them on eBay or Vinted

MichelleScarn · 12/07/2022 22:40

Of course not! Hi tesco I bought this Cadbury product in Waitrose, refund please?

Perpop · 12/07/2022 22:41

🤣 @MichelleScarn

MichelleScarn · 12/07/2022 22:42

And just Googled Skims and its underwear? Absolutely not!!

Smartiepants79 · 12/07/2022 22:43

They might exchange them if you make up a story about how you come to have them - a gift?? But they’re not going to refund something with no receipt. Depends on their policy. If they can resell them they might.

Well I wasn't sure because someone online mentioned that they were able to do Charlotte Tilbury returns there even though they bought on the CT website so. i guess they were probably lying

It's different though because this is underwear which is universally non returnable.

I don’t think they give away free money, not a great business plan.

Jellybean23 · 12/07/2022 22:56

Items can be returned to different BRANCHES of a retailer but none will accept returns (knowingly) from another retailer. If you were going to concoct a story about it being a gift, you'd have to check they stock the identical item with matching labels and barcodes. As already pointed out, underwear is often non returnable unless faulty.

TheOGCCL · 12/07/2022 23:06

Increasingly retailers are using the barcode to track whether they sold a specific item, not even just the line.

jazzybelle · 12/07/2022 23:07

As you bought them from the US why not email them and ask if you can return them in the UK to save you the cost of a return to the US?

Stichintime · 12/07/2022 23:13

Hi all, I have some undies I bought from the States. Sorry, but I don't want them. Its not a problem for me to come to you for is refund is it? You do sell the same range after all

Or make up some nonsense story, tell Selfridges and have them say "I'm sorry madam, these were not purchased from us". What are you going to do, argue the point, or walk away with part of your dignity still in tact and the undies?

coolbottlesummer · 13/07/2022 07:24

Not the point, but why don’t you like them? I was considering buying from Selfridges.

Ollybob · 13/07/2022 07:31

It's possible some retailers will take faulty goods from another place so they can be repaired but its usually big items and you would only get a replacement/repair from the company itself not the retailer as they only act as a go between.
However as it's undies then it's unlikely and gross!

Yes. Next does this now. I was amazed when returning stuff I'd bought on my account that they didn't want to scan the receipt. They just scanned each garment and my account was credited as they did so.

Cliffordthebigreddog · 17/07/2022 13:43

I bought a skims bodysuit that was delivered from the US website and I sold it on Depop as the returns were expensive. Sold it for same price I bought it (less p&p) so get it listed and you’ll get your money back that way

gunnersgold · 17/07/2022 20:00

Only next have the tech to do this ! They patented it !

John Lewis stoped doing returns without proof of purchase for this reason because people were returning stuff they hadn't bought from them in the first place so they were losing 2 x the money !!

Everyone needs to remember these places are business's and aren't there so you don't have to pay postage !
