IPL hair removers are they worth it?

And if so which one? The Lumea, the Braun or something else?

It worked differently on different parts of my body.

Legs: 70% effective
Bikini sides: 90% effective
Bikini underneath: 0% effective
Underarms: 0% effective

I think it was worth it

Stringervest · 12/07/2022 21:38

Oh yeah, and it's a Lumea

disneylover367 · 12/07/2022 21:46

Yes definitely. I bought a Kenzzi with a discount code it was 70.00 I think. It has worked really well, legs and underarms done. Im now doing bikini area (Brazilian) and about half way through. I think I will need occasional top ups though, I spotted a few random hairs on my leg. But this is after 2 months of being complete smooth. I like how I don't have the tiny dark dots like after shaving.

darisdet · 12/07/2022 21:48

Great! Thanks both.

I can't speak for home IPL but I have recently paid £1125 for 8 sessions of laser hair reduction - full leg, Hollywood and armpits. I am two sessions in and the difference is incredible. I haven't shaved my legs or pits for 2 weeks and they still smooth- no dotty legs, ingrown hairs or stubble. I suffered from folliculitis on my bikini line forever and now I'm totally smooth- the underneath is slower than the top and sides. I wish I'd done it years ago- before laser I would have a 5 o'clock shadow after shaving the the morning- life changing for me!

Selkiesarereal · 12/07/2022 22:39

Best lockdown purchase I made, it is fantastic. Legs are more or less hair free, one underarm completely free and the other bizarrely still continues to sprout a few hairs.

It has made summer so much easier as I never need to worry about the 5pm leg stubble!

Have the Lumea.

Scampi89 · 14/07/2022 11:39

I also vouch for the Lumea
you do need to touch up occasionally, I think they say monthly after the initial course. I’m all tanned now so will wait until winter to start this. I’ve done my full bikini area an love it!

TheFlis12345 · 14/07/2022 11:44

Lumea is life changing. I used mine 8 years ago and my underarm hair disappeared completely in 3 months and never came back!!! I get a few patchy hairs on my legs so do occasional top ups there a couple of times a year.

Penguinparty88 · 14/07/2022 11:55

Sorry to hijack I just wondered if you can do chin/ lip with these as I'm sick of waxing mine it's turning tash like it's ridiculous

TheFlis12345 · 14/07/2022 12:29

Yup they often come with specific facial attachments as well which help focus on smaller areas.

darisdet · 14/07/2022 12:29

I opted for the cheapskate Braun IPL in the end (it was around £150 in those Amazon Prime deals). So thanks again.

@Penguinparty88 there's a picture of somebody on the box (I'm not opening it until weekend) with the device on their chin, so I'm guessing you can use it in that area. Though people will be able to tell you if it's the same for the Lumea.

Does it make legs blotchy or sore, after use, just to ask? Just the comment about not using while having a tan. Not that I have a tan!

The Lumea gave me bad foliculitis which ruined a holiday - a rash like chicken pox all over my legs. I had to pay for private Gp to get cream urgently before leaving on holiday. Tried it again on upper thigh in small patch 6 months later and same again so binned it. I have pretty tough skin and have never reacted to anything else. I'd suggest a skin test before you go for it!!!

EvelynBeatrice · 14/07/2022 18:06

Meant to say I'm theoretically the perfect candidate for it - v pale skin and dark hair

megletthesecond · 14/07/2022 18:11

Yes, just about. I have a lumea. I'd waxed my legs for 30 years and it took over a year for the lumea to work.
The first two months were hell post treatment. My legs were spotty and the itching woke me at night, it was miserable tbh. I continued to zap every fortnight for months and it got rid of most of the hair. It only really worked when I started doing little bits every week. I can wear shorts every day now. I'm 18 months in and zap twice a month, only have very sparse and fine hair growth.
Basically, I had terminator hair that is nothing like whoever they tested the damn thing on.

megletthesecond · 14/07/2022 18:13

I had foliculitis too. I stopped treatment for a bit, used steroid cream and put iced flannels on my legs.

Partypoooooper · 14/07/2022 18:27

I think mine is the Braun.

Armpits are a bit so so but slowly getting there.

My legs however are 95% hair free, I can now confidently put a dress/shorts on without having to worry.

darisdet · 15/07/2022 12:25

I wish I'd seen the last few comments first! I probably didn't ask the right questions. I am pale and I do have dark hair on my legs but probably only approx 20-30 hairs at most I'd guess on each lower leg, the rest is barely there, fine, fair and invisible.

I'm in two minds about whether to return it. It's still in the sealed box so I'm going to have a think.

I think those who persevered and continued to use the lumea after foliculitis are mad! It can turn into septicaemia.
