Foundation recommendation

Hey all, please can you tell me your foundation tips and best products?

I use Estée Lauder double wear but as I've gotten older, it's quite drying and a bit too mat. I love the full coverage it gives though and the fact it's non transferable (I touch my face all the time so definitely need this)

Ideally I'd like something that gives full coverage without having to build it up and something that's maybe a bit silky? Or semi dewy?

I've tried illamaqua which seems to change colour through out thr day and I'm using bare minerals atm but it's not full coverage enough and doesn't last all day. I've tried Mac in thr past which made my skin break out.

Please help!

Use double wear with urban decay glowy primer or some kind of dewy base. And use a glowy fixing spray. Also use a damp beauty blender to apply and press/bounce it on the skin.
If you want transfer proof you won't get better than double wear. I personally love mac but I know everyones skin is different.

Il Makiage, I love it and get a full size freebie every time you order

MistyRock · 11/07/2022 17:10

Lancome teint idole foundation. Not as thick and hard to work with. Very forgiving.

Pat McGrath 100%

Not that dreadful il makiage crap. It’s all hype, the actual product is £1 quality, I’m so disappointed with myself for getting caught up in the social media nonsense about it.

I haven't tried it but it does sound like a load of old nonsense. There's only a handful of brands I'd order online and Il Makiage isn't one of them.

OP definitely take the advice of poster above who hasn't tried it but definitely wouldn't 🤔 and so clearly has authority

Lolacat1234 · 11/07/2022 21:48

I've tried the I'l makiage and it is horrible. Wouldn't ever buy again. I love my double wear, have used Mac in the past as well which was on a par x

I'd be careful or they'll be coming for you! shhhhhh! You've been warned!

50 year old dry skin here, I find a lot of it is to do with skin prep before you put it on but I do love the Bobby Brown one. If you have a counter near you go and try before you buy.

Christian Dior also has a good one for dry skin but I slightly prefer the BB, but I do mix my foundation with Vita Liberata beauty blur.

I'll second Lâncome Teint Idole for full-coverage but I know it's not everybody's favourite so get a swatch. If you're prone to allergies make sure you give anything a good old test run at home.
I think Giorgio Armani has a good one for full-coverage called Beauty Power Fabric Longwear High Coverage Foundation (I have it on my list of things to try hahah). I haven't tried it yet but have read good things. Add that one to your list (and feel free to give us a review please 😁)
I tried Kat Von D's and it was proper full-coverage but I tried it in a shop and I don't think it was worked properly or maybe it dries super fast or needs a good mosturiser. Give it a go too to see how you feel.
I also have Too Faced Born This Way on my list but I have added a note that it needs to be powdered and is a bit more sheer but beautiful finish, so it might not be as full-coverage as you want.
You can also try Embryolisse Lait Crème (fab price and I've read that a lot of professional MUAs use it) or the Bobbi Brown vitamin cream (not so fab price so take it with a pinch of salt), both are moisturisers that double as primers so they might give you a better canvas for the foundation.

I've moved from EL double wear to Kevyn Aucoin Etherialist skin illuminating foundation. Much less drying and doesn't sit in wrinkles so much. I'd never heard of it but bought something online from. SPACE NK and could choose a few samples and this was one of them.

Lol. It sounds like shite. Just my opinion. And I was advising the op of anything just agreeing with the previous poster.

Pat McGrath produce the best foundation.

miraveile · 12/07/2022 05:21

@MistyRock I have tried it and your hunch is 100% correct. It's utter crap.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/07/2022 11:43

I have tried the il makiage crap. It’s shit. Watery, rubs off, orange. No coverage.

what I have found is if you say you didn’t like it, you get bots who disagree with you.

The free eyeliner gave me an allergic reaction. The foundation is cheap. I stupidly bought some believing the hype. The colour is all wrong, they sent another foundation still orange still hopeless.

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 12:03

😁I thought it was funny too how every single time somebody asks, somebody says IlMakiage is the bee's knees yet I love makeup and I've never met a real person that loves this brand or even talks about it. It sounds too perfect imho! I need more than Insta-fame for anything to go near my face let alone on it. @DobbyTheHouseElk I think you're on to something with the bots for this! And I'll add for subscriptions too, recommended by people who make money off you when you use their voucher though that part usually never comes up. 😂

MistyRock · 12/07/2022 12:15

It reeks of Yonique vibes, all the followers and mega fans. 🤷‍♀️ Just my opinion, obviously as I've not tried it. I've not tried Yonique either... I don't feel I need too.

oh wow I absolutely love it, it’s the best foundation I’ve ever used, I guess it’s down to your skin and preferences though 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m on my 4th bottle and even prefer their mascara which I got free one month and now buy again.

Its buildable and doesn’t dry my skin out, lm glad I took the gamble (their insta ads drew me in 😂)

PerditaNitt · 13/07/2022 15:32

OP if you are going to Selfridges they offer a make up booking which covers multiple counters so you can try different brands without leaving your seat.

I love the Armani silk foundation. Have been using it for years. When I last went to Selfridges I thought I’d try a few different brands to see if there is anything better out now, and I went back to Armani.
