The most gentle eye make up remover in the world

LadyEloise1 · 09/07/2022 09:17

Please help.
I have the most sensitive eye lids. If I wear mascara, which I should as my eyelashes are so fair, on removal my eyelids swell and dry out. It's really uncomfortable
And can last for days and days.
It's not the mascara, it's the remover.
I've tried
Blephasol
The Body Shop camomile
Avene ( the best so far but still swells )
Clinique extra gentle
La Roche Posay.
Simple
Lots of different Micellar products - awful reactions Sad

I have tried tubing mascara and just remove with water - even that makes my eye lids red and swollen.

I can't get my eye lashes dyed as my ryes react badly.

First world problem I know but so annoying.

If removing tubing mascara with just water still irritates your eyelids, it’ll be the mascara that’s causing the problem.

OhGingleBells · 09/07/2022 09:25

How about bio oil?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 09/07/2022 09:27

It sounds more like the rubbing is doing the damage than the product tbh. Not sure of the solution then I'm afraid

LadyEloise1 · 09/07/2022 09:29

Because I have a fringe and don't wash my hair everyday I was worried oil or vaseline would make my fringe greasy.😀

I’ve always used shampoo to remove my makeup!

LookdeepintotheParka · 09/07/2022 09:33

I have really sensitive skin round my eyes too. After lots of trial and error I now use LRP which I remove really gently with one of those soft washable pads then Liz Earle eyebright to get rid of any residue.

MissStarry · 09/07/2022 09:33

I agree with oil - sweet almond, jojoba or similar. This should loosen it all then remove using hot cloth method.

Alternatively I really rate Hylamide High Efficiency Face cleanser (although I can’t comment on sensitivity aspects as my skin isn’t sensitive as such)

Ugzbugz · 09/07/2022 09:34

I use a facial wash first which removes most of it then nivea eye make up remover which is oil based so you can just wipe very gently then I use a toner after but it's not greasy.

MissStarry · 09/07/2022 09:35

Get some slides/hair/showercap and pin your fringe up out of the way. Make sure the oil is thoroughly removed and there shouldn’t be an issue.

SavingsThreads · 09/07/2022 09:37

The purple oil Gabriel micellar water.

Otherwise yes to tubing mascara which comes of with water/fingers

Peaceatdawn · 09/07/2022 09:37

Oil or balm. I just use jojoba oil or coconut oil with a damp cotton pad. Slides off.

SprinkleOfInsanity · 09/07/2022 09:39

Honestly, it could be the mascara causing the problem. Many black mascaras contain nickel, which when broken down during removal causes the irritation - specifically if you have a nickel / iron oxide allergy.

Sherrystrull · 09/07/2022 09:43

I use Boots own Eye Make Up Remover. It's cheap but also incredibly mild and the only one I've found that doesn't irritate my eyes.

LetMeInYourWindow · 09/07/2022 09:47

This. Don’t have to rub, just leave the pad soaked with product on lashes for a moment then gently wipe. Removes even waterproof mascara with no rubbing.

Ledkr · 09/07/2022 09:48

Have your eyelashes tinted instead?

theyoungishman · 09/07/2022 09:49

Pin up your fringe and use coconut oil

foreverinmyheart · 09/07/2022 09:51

Lush do a great, natural cleanser called Ultrabland... Works wonders. So gentle yet soft and rich/nourishing. 100% natural. www.lush.com/uk/en/p/ultrabland-self-preserving-facial-cleanser

ShirleyPhallus · 09/07/2022 09:52

I find the best solution is a double cleanse - dermalogica pre cleanse js amazing

I find my lids get really sensitive when I use make up remover / micellar water that stays on your skin whereas if I use a gentle double cleanse and face wash then it’s fine

jts like it’s the residue that irritates my eyelids?

LadyEloise1 · 09/07/2022 09:55

Thank you all💐

@Ledkr I can't get my eyelashes tinted as I get a severe reaction. Sad

Matildahoney · 09/07/2022 09:56

I use an oily micellar water. Wet the cotton pad (or reusable one) then just press it on for a couple of secs to break down, like you would with nail varnish removal, then gently wipe away rather than rubbing.

Beanomatica · 09/07/2022 10:52

Have you tried just pure saline? You can get the little sterile vials at the pharmacy to try.

If you still react after using that, then it's almost certainly the mascara itself or the friction of rubbing.

If you don't react after using the saline and want to keep using it, you can make your own rather than buying it (you can google how, it's just salt and boiled water and a sterilised jar to keep it in). Although if your local water contains stuff you are reacting to, then you might need to keep buying the purified stuff from the chemist. You can get it in little vials or bigger bottles.

Liz Earle eye makeup remover is gentle I find

I have sensitive eyelids - this Nivea eye makeup remover works well for me - no irritation at all.

Lyonsleaf cleansing balm is excellent, and removes eye makeup too.
I use the regular one, but there is an unfragranced version. They sell sample sizes - might be worth a look.

What mascara do you use?

I have similar issues and found the lancome one doesn't sting my eyes but it's a bit pricey so I'm being a bit cheeky and following for cheaper options.

Weirdly that Nivea one irritates my sensitive eyes. I can't find rhyme or reason for it.
