Undertones

Hi, I am looking to buy foundation online. How do I know my undertones? I used to just go for neutral to counteract the redness in my face from roseaca. Anyway NARS mont blanc suits me perfectly. But the one I'm looking at has light pink, light yellow neutral, light yellow and light peach! I've never heard of peach undertone. I'm so so confused. How do I set about working it out.

Oh and silly question maybe but if there are undertones do I also have to worry about overtones?

There's a website, think it's called findation, where you enter one that you know is a good match and it suggests others that are similar.

If you are red you need a cool foundation to counteract it.

Oh.. I've been using a neutral/yellow to try and counteract it! Thank you so much!

Mars Mont Blanc is for cool tones that's why it suits you so well.

Makes sense thank though! I think this thread has potentially saved me a lot of money and stopped me looking yellow!

My first thought was a band from Derry!! Teenage Kicks and other songs.

If you google a foundation and read the description there is often a 'what shade an I?' section and it groups the shades into undertones so it makes it easier to find your shade.

You see I used to match my skin to a tinted moisturiser - I'm neutral to yellow toned (NC25 for ref) but then I started to look too yellow. So now I go for cool pinky toned tinted moisturisers to cancel the yellow out. So my solution has been to go opposite. I do it with my clothes too - I'm really warm toned ( strawberry blonde hair, amber green eyes) but if I wear warm colours (e.g bronze, terracotta etc), I look like I'm going to combust! Likewise, warm bronzers and blushes look too warm so I go for cool pinks to neutralise me down. Probably an opinion against the grain, but seems to work well enough for me.

That's actually cool toned isn't it? I know it's mad, it's the opposite of what you'd think it is.
