Cetaphil Moisturising Cream / Niacidimide casuing a reaction?

I put Cetaphil Moisturising Cream on for the first time last night and woke up scratching my neck to bits (I have had a heat rash there recently) and my eyelids all red (they are pretty sensitive).

Is it the niacidimide or one of the other ingredients? I've never had any problem with Dr Sam Bunting's moisturiser which contains niacidimide (but that is very expensive)

Back to CeraVe Moisturising Cream I go I think!

Thanks

I've read somewhere Niacimide can't be used with Vitamin C at the same time. Could that it?

Thanks. But no, i dont use anything with vitamin c. This was the only product i applied last night.

Niacidimide causes a reaction for me so I generally avoid it myself

Yes, unless you have a very rare allergy to a preservative, going by the INCI and your reaction, niacinamide is probably the culprit. Petrolatum will have made the reaction more severe (it locks it in).

Some people do have a strong reaction to it (it's rare), but there seems to be a relation to amplifying pre-existing allergies as it causes the body to produce histamines in response.

They say you do get used to it by building tolerance but I find it a rather odd advice to tell people to persist when it's easier to avoid. Maybe take anti histamines if the redness/itchiness persists?

Thanks all!
Today the redness and itch has died down. The skin feels dry though. But CeraVe moisturising cream is helping.

Another one for the "skin products I avoid" list.

Strange how Dr B's moisturiser which also contains niacidimide didn't give me this reaction.
Mind you, no products seem to say on them HOW MUCH niacidimide are in them!
