Hair help!

DD(17) has the most amazing red hair. It's got a natural wave and is about chest length with a few little layers.

We've failed to put curls in ourselves (tongs, wand, heated rollers) - they go limp and simply fell out within 20 mins.

We're at the hairdressers now and they're also failing to curl it. It's so bizarre! They've said she needs to strip it of all silicone and suggested baby shampoo.

Is this the best way to go? We have a week to try and sort it before we need to curl it (bridesmaid) as she's wearing it down.

She's gutted. Is there anything else we can do?! What should we avoid?

She's never dyed it, permed it, rarely straightens it. We just wash it with whatever we find on offer.

Help!

Is it heavy? As in thick? Mine is and I struggle to get it to hold a curl. Could you experiment with rags in slightly damp hair overnight? This works for me!

My hair is super straight/fine and won't hold a curl by itself. It's all gone after a while if I don't put anything on. Have you tried hairspray? There's also styling sprays that dry and set the shape. I think you need the right product tbh. Won't recommend anything because I don't have much experience as I've only ever done that a salon. Good luck OP!

Her hair sounds beautiful just as it is.

I'm not sure if this will help but my DD has long hair with a bit of a curl to it. We've recently started following a curly hair advice page and now only wash her hair with conditioner. No shampoo at all as it's too harsh and often contains silicone.

Her hair holds its natural curl so much better now as it is still clean. Perhaps your daughter's hair would hold a created curl better if you just use conditioner for a while.

The hairdresser certainly said to lay off shampoo and hair products with silicone.

She's just washed it with baby shampoo, no conditioner -
We'll have to see if this helps.

I’m sure her hair is just gorgeous. What’s wrong with having straight hair at the wedding?

That's what mine says too - he never uses conditioner, says it makes hair too soft and heavy to hold a style. (I think it's different if you're naturally curly, where moisturised hair will look better) Shampoo then some styling product might hold a lot better.

Do foam rollers to sleep in. Spray dry hair very very slightly with water and then put in rollers. Wrap in satin scarf. Loads of tutorials via YouTube. Should hold a curl v well.

Get away from sulphate shampoos and silicone conditioner

She has a natural wave to it that she just wants to emphasise for a bit of glamour. Not big curls, but just to emphasise what's already there).
