YSL Touché Eclat and illuminating pen - keep or change?

I have been using YSL for years, but notice as I’ve entered my late 30s that it’s just not looking as good. Under my eyes are looking patchy, it’s just not staying as it used to and I look very pale with it on.

Using primer or finishing spray doesn’t make a difference either.

I miss my glowy skin this gave me.

Any advice for how I can make it last the day? Or do I need to look for different make up to match this time of my life?

I don’t like the feel of make up on my skin, so if your advice is to change, any suggestions on something lightweight and barely there? Just to give a fresh, healthy glow?

I feel like I need a day just trying different products, but where to start?

I'm inclined to say change it! You're young so you shouldn't have to put that much work into making one product work.
I wore than one, the Givenchy (favourite at the time) and the Clinique pens all through my 20s. I'd buy whatever was available, then I hit 30 and I couldn't get any of them to work for me at all. I think it's time to move on honey, sorry!
I use Drops of Glow from the body shop under my foundation but I think it might too high-maintenance compared to the pens. Have you tried the other pens to see whether any work for you?

Keep an eye out for the Aldi dupes of Touché eclat, in my opinion they are better than the original & last longer, for less than a fiver they are worth every penny, I buy 5 or 6 of the two colours I use every time they are on sale.

Monty27 · 07/07/2022 03:23

I used it for years too and found better in Superdrug

FunnyTalks · 07/07/2022 06:41

Revolution do a similar thing to touché eclat at a fraction of the price. It is also much more subtle which (like you after years of never being without touché eclat) I prefer.

I also can't stand the feeling of makeup. I bought a dcypher foundation from recommendations here which I find really good because of the colour match service (you scan your face with your phone) and because you can opt for the sheer formulation that doesn't feel like makeup at all. It's like putting on moisturiser in your precise skin tone!

StickWithYSL · 07/07/2022 07:08

I thought as much, I know I’m also being lazy as it took such a long time for me to settle on this one I’d followed recommendations to try bare minerals and Mac in the past, so spent loads of money and it want for me.

Think I need a day to meander the make-up counters as it’s both items I’ll need. I’m also mixed raced so getting the right tone and colour can sometimes be tricky - I like the idea of scanning my face though!

Never really understood why people use TE under eyes as it is a highlighter not a concealer. Maybe try a proper concealer. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is a great high end and Revolution, L'Oreal and Maybelline are all brilliant high street options.

Hurstlandshome · 07/07/2022 07:27

Do you think you might be ready for a concealer or is it just the highlight you're after? Maybelline Eraser gives a subtle glow and builds if you want coverage. I've bought high end for years, but wouldn't now live without this. The applicator is pretty awful though.

CauliWobble · 07/07/2022 07:34

Are you using it for highlights? Or concealer?

pastypirate · 07/07/2022 07:38

I swapped it for il makiage fuck I'm flawless - looks amazing and about a third cheaper. I'm sure other options will be good too. I used to love TE but now I think it's a bit shit.

RainbowCrayons · 07/07/2022 11:35

I wonder if they have chanced the recipe? I used to love it too but now it dries really uneven and chalky. I will have to try some of the alternatives pps have mentioned.

I use it under the eyes, as that area is quite sunken and I find it really lightens and lifts my eyes area. I'd imagine that's why others do too, either with or without a concealer.

Oceanus · 07/07/2022 12:08

I haven't tried Bare Minerals yet so can't comment but MAC doesn't work for me at all when it comes to concealing dark circles and I don't really conceal anything on the rest of my face because I can't be bothered so I can't comment on that. This reminds me I've got a Strobe cream from MAC which I use as a highlighter, it's the pink one. I got a sample but I'm not sure I would cough up the $$ for the real size, though it works I think you can probably find sth cheaper from another brand.

CauliWobble · 07/07/2022 12:50

Have you considered a colour corrector?

Shitscared123 · 07/07/2022 17:17

I didn’t like it either. Nars creamy concealer is amazing.

It is. Its one of the very few makeup items I repurchase so I don't run out. They sell minis too.

StickWithYSL · 07/07/2022 20:56

@Sparkletastic

Yes, I was using it as a concealer and highlighter - the woman on the counter said it could be used for both as it lightens the area. Maybe over the years my
under eye area has become darker!

I will need to have mooch and try new things.

Thanks

It's too heavy for under eye imho. It might hide shadows but give you eyebags
