Hi,
I have lots of little white spots under my eyes. I was told by a dermatologist they are syringomas and will never go. However I went to see a nurse recently for Botox and she says they are milia and she can get rid of them no problem...so who knows. We shall see!

I'm booked in for diathermy today and have a few questions...

  • did it work?
  • does it hurt? - I'm assumin a needle in the under eye area won't be nice
  • how obvious/ red was it after

Thank you 😌

I'd never heard of that treament! I'm adding myself to thread to learn from it! Good luck OP! I've had milia too from a Lâncome eye cream that was just too much!

@Oceanus sorry you suffer too! I hate my undereye area. Hopefully I'll have some success. I'm just unsure as the dermatologist told me I have no hope of removing them but the nurse I saw seemed certain she could get rid of them, so we shall see!
Just hoping it won't hurt too much!

I have had syringoma for years and have also had several dermatologists tell me they can't help me and don't know what it is. Syringoma is caused by an over production of oil and it's a harmless tumour caused by a blockage. Normally they are skin coloured and look like flat bumps.

I also have milia, it is distinctive in how it looks, it has a white ball within it, which is keratin. It can be removed with a sterile needle but would recommend going to a professional for this.

Diathermy can be used for both issues, I've had this treatment several times.

It does help but you may need several treatments to get rid of them. Mine have reduced but it's likely I will always have them.

It does hurt but it's over very quickly, a bit like plucking eyebrows. I had a lot so asked for numbing cream.

The plus side is there is very little down time. I was red immediately after but this settled after day 2 and it looked like tiny scabs, the syringoma shrink and fade.

You should avoid the sun, hot showers, saunas etc (I didn't cook after my treatment, just in case, hehe)

I hope that helps.

@Dontbugmemalone It certainly helped me, I find it much more useful to hear from people who've actually experienced it! Thank you for taking the time to explain!

@Oceanus, no problem, glad I could help. It literally took to me years to get the right diagnosis so am happy to share any methods that might help!

I've had syringomas under the eyes, milla, skin tags and moles removed with advanced electroysis which I think is pretty similar. I think it works pretty well but ask to see an experienced practitioner as it can leave little scars, not really pits but like tiny burns. I have very pale white skin so you don't really see them but if you have darker skin you might want to consider that risk.
