Kerastraight problem?

stillstanding51 · 05/07/2022 07:22

Morning,
i had a Kerastraight treatment last Thursday and it looked amazing when I left the salon
Washed it on Sunday with Olaplex stuff as advised by the salon and then again this morning
Hair looks and feels dry and stiff It’s lost any movement and shine.😩
I’m thinking too much protein doesn’t suit my over bleached, thin hair
what can I use to restore some moisture whilst still retaining the benefit of the Kerastraight?
At the moment I’m regretting the whole Kerastraight thing
Can anyone help/advise 😭
Thanks in advance hopefully 🤞

When I first had it done I went to salon and they put so much of the product in my hair felt awful for ages afterwards until it washed out a bit and became much more manageable. I personally use a keratin straight kit and do it at home for like £25 for 3 treatments, the results are better and one tub lasts me a year.

I had it a couple of months ago and it was a complete waste of money. Did nothing. Obviously your hair looks good when you leave the salon, they've straightened it and it's all shiny. I firmly believe now that it's only worth it if your hair is in an absolute state/completely fried and frizzy, because mine was in good condition and there was no effect whatsoever. An expensive lesson learned here.

My hair was left greasy looking and lifeless the two times I did it in a salon. I have a friend who had to stop as her hair was breaking. I just use the L'Oréal Steampod when I want to straighten.

My hairdresser told me they stopped using it (and other keratin straightening treatments) as they were losing money to having to refund people as it made little to no difference to their hair after a few weeks, apparently it was too unpredictable so make of that what you will.

Thanks,
what shampoo & conditioner would you recommend that might help
I think Olaplex is overloading the protein and causing the stiffness
plus it stinks! Every now and then I get a whiff of swamp and egg!
thanks again x

I use Pureology shampoo and conditioner, they work very well after a Brazilian blow dry. For those who say it doesn't work, I do wonder if they are following the after care advice correctly?

I’ve only washed twice since the treatment but did the 5 minute rinse followed by the shampoo & conditioner they gave me - Olaplex 🤷‍♀️
I guess it just doesn’t suit every hair type

ps. How long for the awful smell to disappear? 🥴

Patronising much? It’s an expensive treatment, why would anyone bother to shell out for it if they were going to ignore all of the instructions about what to do after? 🙄

Olaplex doesn't have any protien in it. I didn't rate it well for it's moisturising properties, however, and protien treated hair needs a lot of moisture.

I reccomend Osmo Deep Moisture.

I do keratin treatments on my own hair and have never had an issue with stiffness or dull hair using Osmo (I also use Olaplex but will do an Olplex treatment prior tothe keratin treatment rather than using the shampoo and conditioner afterwards)

Olaplex do have an intense moisture mask which is awesome if you want the benefits of Olaplex but still need extra moisture. It's not for daily use though, it's a weekly treatement.

HuggyWuggy · 06/07/2022 02:55

@WowStarsWow that wasn't meant to be patronising Hmm. It's definitely a possibility why the treatment doesn't work. The very first time I did mine, the salon gave me poor aftercare advice and I thought the treatment hadn't worked ( they said I could use hair mousse after but that actually breaks down the treatment like sulphate shampoo does). I'm glad I got good advice from another salon and tried it again, my hair has never looked better.

It takes about four hair washes for most of the smell to go away, OP.
