Wedding guest shoes

So, I’m 44 and going to a wedding shortly wearing a off shoulder pencil dress. Apparently high heels, especially stilettos are very unfashionable now. What do people wear to weddings then? I need a heel of some kind as I’m very short. 70s style platforms with a block heel maybe? Or shall I just stick with the stilettos I’ve already got? Help meeee?!

Heels were all over the catwalks for AW!

I have a similar problem and so have my eye out for a tall block heel, however, if I don't find anything suitable in time then I'll resort to my nude stilettos.

I wore a sling back with 3 inch heel to a recent wedding, I thought they looked lovely.

Have a look at Linzi shoes. Loads of styles, colours and reasonably priced

SkeletonFight · 05/07/2022 23:46

Was at a wedding recently and there were masses of block heels.

Surely you wear what you think looks nice, and you will be comfortable in ?

With a pencil dress, I think you need heels / stilettos.

I have been at a wedding recently, and then a graduation even more recently, and believe me, high heels are definitely "in".

I mean, I am a lot older than you, and no longer comfortable in heels for a long day, but I would still wear them for the ceremony / photos, even if changing later.

Platforms and a pencil dress ain’t happening. You need something elegant. I say wear the heels you already have. I constantly read on here that heels are terribly unfashionable but I suspect that is because some posters can’t walk in them/don’t like other women looking attractive in glamorous footwear.

Somebody should tell Reiss, Russell and Bromley, Dune etc that heels are apparently unfashionable: they are all selling high, elegant sandals and shoes with slim heels.

Heels aren't going anywhere, except on mumsnet, am sure someone will be along soon telling you to wear white trainers and a denim jacket.

I couldn't agree more. All the shops still have a wide selection of heels. Personally I like and own both flats and heels. But for certain dresses or skirts a heel adds a touch of glamour and a look that cannot be achieved with other shoes. People who find them uncomfortable or don't want to wear them, don't need to, but there is no need to mock or belittle those who choose to. Oh hail the heel 😀

Thanks everyone! I’ll stick with my heels then.

Haha love it! Have a great time at the wedding, OP.

Finally! A sensible and lovely heel thread.

I’m sure those announcing they’re ‘dated’ on other threads are just wishful thinking as they don’t like them/can’t walk in them.

Fair enough, we all had our trainers on for the lockdowns, but now… wear the heels and enjoy, it’s a wedding!

what tripe! Next you’re going to say posters are jealous. 🙄. Personally I think as far as “fashion” goes heels are not “in” based on what I see on a day to day basis in Central London. Going for drinks or dinner has become a much more casual and women have woken up to the comfort and practicality of flats. This may not be the case elsewhere

A wedding is different though and if I wearing a pencil dress I would wear heels.

I was waiting for a post like this and the thread did not disappoint. This one has everything:

  • “fashion” in inverted commas. The poster is above such fripperies and thus has to disdainfully segregate the word.
  • boasting about being in central London, by which we are to understand that she is an arbiter of style and taste, not like the other posters who aren’t…
  • …because they are provincials who live ‘elsewhere’ and are probably falling out of nightclubs in Barnsley (there is nothing wrong with nightclubs in Barnsley, incidentally) shrieking, drunk on Bacardi breezers, in their déclassé heels.
  • or they simply haven’t woken up to the ‘comfort and practicality’ of flat shoes. Because anyone who likes and wears heels wears them all the time, right? Even to the gym, or on a hike, or to go out for brunch. They haven’t heard of flat shoes. Not like our metropolitan poster.

Are you struggling with comprehension?! I didn’t say they were ‘in’ just not ‘dated’. Re read and I think you’ll see we actually agree with each other! Bizarre comment.
