Hate the bags under my eyes.....making me feel crap.

Everyone in my family and others I come into contact with say that I am being silly
and that they are not that noticeable, but I just don't get how they CANNOT see what I can.

Was thinking of trying some of that Eyesential stuff, but it is £40 a pop!!!

What I would really like, is to come to terms with the way I look and accept that it's just the way I am (ooh and get to bed earlier)! Feels like I am obsessing about this, I try not to look in the mirror first thing in the morning. Please tell me I am not mental!

No advice, only sympathy! I actually have people ask me how I got a black eye as it's so bad . Doesn't help that I'm permanently tired atm and they're even worse than normal. DD(3) makes me laugh though as she gets mixed up and calls them my air bags!
Supposedly the best thing to do is drink loads of water and if that doesn't help it's genetic and you should give up. Touche Eclat covers mine for a while.

cornsilk · 16/01/2008 14:51

Second the drink lots of water tip - it really makes a difference. Creams etc can only have a temporary effect. Also exercise will help. Apparently cutting out caffeine and alcohol helps, too but I wouldn't know if that worked or not!

I have terrible bags just now but it's because I'm so tired! I think drinking lots of water, eating healthy, get some exercise and try and get more sleep if possible (not always the case!) would have the best result. YSL Touche Eclat is brill if they are dark, it's covers them up a treat.

greeneyedgirl · 16/01/2008 16:46

Thanks ladies, it's nice to know I am not the only one who worries about it. Have always had them to some extent, I will try the Touche Eclat and see if that works, although they are not too dark. Bugger about the water, I know I should, used to drink loads, but got out of the habit!!

I am 33 and I think they make me look old!!!

I just remembered something I read in a magazine ages ago about the hollywood stars using pile cream to get rid of them......it could only be worth a try lol! Then you could let us all know if it works I googled it there and there are loads of people who recommend it, the only warning to be don't get it in your eyes!

Cheaper than expensive eye creams

cornsilk · 16/01/2008 17:37

lol I've always wondered about the pile cream after seeing it on Miss Congeniality! I hate drinking water, I can only be bothered to do it if I'm going on a 'big' night out. I'm also a touche eclat user. I think it is to do with your genes, my ds's are both a bit dark around their eyes as well.

Maidamess · 16/01/2008 17:43

I bought some 'eyesential' type serum from Boots and while it did tighten the skin I found it impossible to wear make up over the top...and I need make up to cover up the shadows! So I wouldn't recommend it.

Bags and shadows IMO are never as bad looking as you think they are. Wearing a bit of blusher works wonders in drawing attention away and stops me looking like death warmed up!

cornsilk · 16/01/2008 17:44

Good idea Maidamess. A low cut top will draw attention away from the eyes also.

Maidamess · 16/01/2008 17:45

Yep, highlight the funbags, minimize the eyebags.

mazzystar · 16/01/2008 17:49

water water water

is it bags or dark circles?

I was devoted to touche eclat but have found that bourjois do a version, which is significantly cheaper - less than £10, and weirdly [because I am a total make-up fetishist] I like it more - its not as drying/chalky-feeling, and seems to do the job equally as well.

greeneyedgirl · 16/01/2008 18:02

Bags more than circles, although, they are not totally horrendous yet, but I think they look yuck! I do usually wear blusher to draw the eye away from them, but my problem is that my eyes seem to be my best feature, always get comments about them! So then I get self conscious because people have been looking at my eyes.

Erm am now aware that I sound like a weirdo.

Well I will hold off the Eyesential for a bit and try sleeping longer and water. The piles cream just scares me..not sure I want to try that one.

Obv if all else fails, will get the boobs out!

OP posts:
Maidamess · 16/01/2008 21:56

I bet no-one notices them (the bags, not the boobs) as much as you think. Why, even your name draws attention to them! Stop staring at the shadows and focus on something you DO like about your face

Maidamess · 16/01/2008 21:57

That sounded really bossy, don't mean to be, as a shadow girl myself I know how it feels!

Octothechildherder · 16/01/2008 21:57

clinique all about eyes is fab

bigspender30 · 16/01/2008 22:05

mazzystar-whats the bourjois version called?

greeneyedgirl · 17/01/2008 13:27

Lol, Maidamess, didn't sound bossy at all!!! I have just started seeing someone (who is just gorgeous , but that thread is on relationships), so I guess I am being more sensitive about it.

To be honest, I have a few hang-ups re my appearance, became horribly vain when I split up with hubby, when I suddenly realised you need to make a bigger effort when you are single...grrr!

I lost 2 stones and grew my hair longer, which made me feel so much better about myself. I got lots of compliments from men, which is nice, but it has had the opposite effect on me, as I just think they are all mad and are not looking properly!

Anyway, soz for the ramble, all your suggestions are very helpful and I'll have a look at the make-up to see what I can get!

I got a Benefit fake it kit for eyes for Xmas. That is pretty impressive. Is in a small brown spotty box.
