Nail routine that doesn't cost a fortune?

I’ve recently started getting my nails done and I really enjoy having nice nails but I’m struggling to justify the cost.

I’m having them done roughly every 2 weeks. It’s costing £35 a go, or more if I fancy anything other than just a basic manicure.

I’ve tried leaving it longer between appointments but I wear contact lenses every day. 2 weeks is about as long as I can go before my nails grow too long for me to easily get my contacts in & out, without feeling like I’m about to poke my eye out!

I'm awful at doing my own nails and there's just something about having a proper manicure from a salon that makes me feel really put together.

So can I please ask how you balance having nice nails without spending a fortune?

Essie nail polishes look good - they are easy to apply and have a great finish. Seche Vite top-coat is a game changer. Goes on really well, gives the look of a gel finish, and dries super-quickly.

I also have an Essie matt top coat (looks great with really pale colours) which seems to last ages.

Seconding the recommendation for Essie. I hadn't painted my nails for years but started again in lockdown and I'm pretty sure the products are much better now.

Since I'm working from home I do mine with normal polish while I'm listening to conference calls. Doesn't last as long as gel obviously but I redo every few days; it doesn't feel like a chore since I'm going to be sitting there anyway. It's nice to have a change of colour and I hate that gap you get at the bed of the nail once you've had gels for a week or so. Had some gels done for a recent holiday though and it was nice they are so durable!
