Suddenly got my eye on ballet flats..

LouraLoura · 02/07/2022 17:18

Not sure why, but I used to love wearing them with ankle jeans and a sloppy top.

Sadly they often hurt my feet. If I take the plunge and look for some, what would you recommend? I used to buy cheap ones so maybe that is why they hurt? Would soft leather be better?

I would imagine MN still thinks they're dated Grin but I don't care! Then again I don't want to pay much for shoes I would only do short distance in.

I like them styled like this

Speaking as a plantar fasciitis sufferer.

Don't do it!!!!!

Yes, another one who has the same thing, it is very, very painful! Don't do it!

@Becclescake - they are lush - where do you buy them from?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394012365468?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ax1-b2-wqvm&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=lxuvmc6csjq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

These are from eBay - I usually just type in 'Indian flats' and get loads of results. That listing is a size 5 but you can obviously search for your own size and preferred colour Smile

CuriositysCat · 03/07/2022 08:58

Fitflop do really good ones with proper arch support.

DangerouslyBored · 03/07/2022 09:01

I love a ballet shoe, OP. French Sole and Petit Ballerina are the best. I also have a black Chanel pair which are like walking on air. I don’t wear them every day because I don’t want feet issues, but for occasional wear, they are beautiful, comfortable and so stylish.

Hallmark1234 · 03/07/2022 09:08

These are hard to find now, but I've had mine years and super comfy, can wear for hours and walk in them

This thread is really interesting. I also wore ballet flats for years until I realised that scrunching my toes to hold them on was causing problems. At the time I didn't feel uncomfortable in them but normal shoes that stay on by themselves felt amazing in comparison.
I now have very painful almost arthritic tops of my feet and this thread is making me wonder if it's from the years of wearing ballet flats 🤔

HoobleDooble · 03/07/2022 09:12

I love the look of them but they give me horrendous cramps in my toes and instep/arches within about 10 minutes of taking them off. Probably because I tense my feet up to keep them on xx

ticketyboom · 03/07/2022 09:23

I've got two pairs of the fit flop ones, they are comfy and have some support.

I didn't pay 80 quid for either, one pair was about 30 quid new off eBay and the other was on Amazon for 40.

Nitgel · 03/07/2022 09:27

Dune do lovely ones, wear occasionally not all the time tho 😉

Please tell me about your Chanel pair . This is my current obsession after seeing MM wearing them with jeans.
Is the sizing accurate?

Sorry to open this back up but would the flat foot thing apply to converse and superga, etc?

And would people wear them if they were super fashionable again? People just do, dont they? We make excuses for all sorts of things!
I used to wear flats but they did hurt. No long term damage thankfully but the pain used to transfer to my hips.

I have never had issues with converse though, but surely this is a flat foot too? Or does the cushion mitigate that?

CredibilityProblem · 07/07/2022 23:21

Converse killed my feet. I find Superga better.

Treesinthewind · 07/07/2022 23:27

Another one suddenly realising that years of wearing ballet flats might be responsible for my plantar fasciitis and mallet toes ...

www.prettyballerinas.co.uk/120191-rosario.html

Pretty Ballerina have beautiful shoes. They are comfortable and very hard wearing.

I have this pair https://www.prettyballerinas.co.uk/118272-faye.html except they have an embroidered gold anchor (I think?) on the tops and they are most uncomfortable! I paid nearly £180 for them a few years ago and have only worn them 2-3 times and just around the office I think. The pain they caused me Sad And more so to the tops of my feet, not even the bottoms.

GiggidyGiggidy2022 · 08/07/2022 01:52

@memyselfi M&S sell these leather ones that look very similar, but obviously a faction of the price.

Nat6999 · 08/07/2022 02:53

Next used to sell the most amazing leather ballet flats, I used to buy as many pairs as I could find in the sales as they were timeless but they don't sell many leather pairs now, only synthetic rubbish that is very uncomfortable & leave horrid blisters.

fallfallfall · 08/07/2022 02:58

this company comes highly rated for comfort.

i'd love to try them BUT my size must be popular :(

marmiteadict · 17/07/2022 17:56

French sole are great. I bought a Chanel dupe. M&S do a great copy also.

I actually have the Chanel ones but never wear them as terrified of wrecking them. Go figure

Tomasinabombadil · 17/07/2022 17:58

FitFlop Allegro, fabric or leather in various colours. Some colours are in the sale atm.🙂

learieonthewildmoor · 17/07/2022 18:05

These are expensive but really beautiful and comfortable

houseargh · 17/07/2022 18:12

@ConfusedParticle Converse wrecked my feet too. The thing with shoes like that is they're not uncomfortable when on, unless you walk for hours in them. It's the cumulative effect over time. I switched to Skechers memory foam after decades of Converse and I will never go back

TheTeenageYears · 17/07/2022 18:17

Fitflop allegro- they have arch support & wide toe box. I have major foot issues and can walk miles in them.

mummy203 · 17/07/2022 18:28

Clarks shoes have ballets but with comfy soles

Quitelikeacatslife · 17/07/2022 18:32

buy some. 90s fashion is in at the moment so it will be 00s fashion next - pumps, pedal pushers, little boleros over sequinned cami tops…
