Please help me with my skin!!

I'm mid 30s and my facial skin is terrible.

I seem to have all sorts of problems with it.

It's sensitive and stings and burns and goes red for ages with all kinds of moisturisers - tried Simple, Cerave, natural oils etc. Basically acts like it's being attacked by the moisturiser!! Even hot water hurts. I've no idea what's going on and why it's like this.

I am pale and burn badly so need SPF of at least 25. However all spf ones leave a greasy white cast which makes my make up slide off and also make me break out in spots. Which leads to ..

I still get acne, on my chin especially. I try to moisturise because my skin seems dehydrated and for wrinkles, but then it goes red hot and break outs.

MY skin is all big pores too and leathery.

I used to deal with it when younger by just not using anything, but I feel I need something now and certainly spf, but no idea what to do.

I really have to be clear here that I do not have much money at all. I'm on a low income so I can only afford 1 cleanser and 1 moisturiser (with spf).

I had a 'curel' one which didn't hurt at least, but it didn't have an spf.

Does anyone have any ideas please??

Even now sunblock makes my skin burn so I’m leaving it off.

I really recommend seeing a dermatologist - even a video consult would help so much.

I have never found GPs to be much use with skin issues.

Insist on a referral to a dermatologist. That's the only way I cleared my acne/rosacea. Oral and topical medicines that only they can prescribe.
In the meantime, have a look at Dr Sam Bunting and/or Dr Dray videos on youtube.

Am I the only one thinking you're getting paid by dermalogica...?

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 22:21

hahah! Just saw sb called the doctor up on it first! Go ChinBristles!

ChinBristles · 04/07/2022 22:23

Haha, what a reputable Dr eh, spamming the boards on a Monday night!

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 22:28

And it's not the only one tbh! Every single time somebody asks about skincare sb will come along and say: get it from Dermalogica! They're so great! Bla bla bla!
This was a bit more obvious because they posted the same thing on the same thread, like a forgetful bot! hahaha

ChinBristles · 04/07/2022 22:37

Agree. I saw a girl using expensive Dermalogica every day and her skin was awful. Red, angry, spotty. I've never heard it recommended by Dr Sam Bunting or Dr Dray. My no nonsense gurus.

Dr Dray's youtube videos are totally eyeopening about what a rip-off the skincare industry is. To the extent that I fear she will end up with a horse's head in her bed for costing them money!

Once I learned about the active ingredients (BHA, AHA, retinoid, azelaic, niacidimide etc), I was able to get prescriptions for what I needed and just stick to basic products otherwise - dirt cheap cleanser and moisturiser. Saved thousands and sorted my skin. Once you see through the bullshit, you can't be fooled again!

ChinBristles · 04/07/2022 22:38

And to be honest, it's all a waste of money if you smoke or don't use SPF.

ChinBristles · 04/07/2022 22:42

I had 2 courses of Roaccutane (cue the scary music!) from a consultant dermatologist. LIFE CHANGING! No way you will get that from a flipping oral or topical antibiotic for 3 months like the GP might give you or some potion you can buy over the counter.

ChinBristles · 04/07/2022 22:45

Now it's me spamming the board but I keep getting ideas!

OP, I would google "demodex mites" and "soolantra". If you get a combo of acne and rosacea.

After years without touching a ciggie, I've fallen off the smoke wagon! I'm going to start telling myself: wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles, bad skin, bad skin!😰

ChinBristles · 04/07/2022 22:57

@Oceanus yeah, just think of those old lady cat's bum mouth upper lip wrinkles! Eww!

mirilou · 04/07/2022 23:00

my skin has got worse as I’ve got older, mix of dry and greasy and prone to big spots. You probably already know this, but look for non comedogenic products as these don’t clog pores. I switched to avene hydrance moisturiser spf 30 and it works for me. It’s not expensive. Might be worth a try.
