Had a bit of a wardrobe clearout and was horrified to discover that soo much of my stuff is at least 6 years old and I just keep dragging it out, sticking it on . . . Thing is 6 years ago I was 25 and I think there is probably a big difference between what a 25yr old can get away with and a 31 yr old mum of 2. The major problem I have is that if I decide on a whim (or whinge!!!!) to go for a walk with LOs I dress them really nicely etc, then chuck jeans, jumper coat on and off I trot. I cannot allow myself to do this anymore I do not want to be 'tired looking mum'. I want t o have some pride and style.
I'm ok with getting dressed up (for those rare occasions we go out at night). What I am struggling with is a 'uniform' for the day. You know something fairly low maintenance that is going to be comfy, washable etc, but that I won't be ashamed to open the door in or nip round the shops in. Then I need stage 2 - The weekend wear - for going out on family outings etc - again casual, but trendy/nice etc.
So stats then - I'm 31 (as mentioned) 5 foot 1, size 8-10 bottom half, have 32E norks(I know I know - but relevant info I feel for the whole body shape thing) so that usually equates to 12-14 top. What would suit me?
Please don't slate me too much - I've just got a bit out of touch....

One new item I bought for christmas was a jumper dress. Really comfy and looks quite trendy too. Am I right in thinking I should never ever try and wear with skinny jeans though as I'm too little?

That's a good link ggirl. unforuntely I'm a brick. Not sure Trinny and Susannah know what they are talking about cos they suggested this for me!!].

I should like to see the bodyshape that could pull that little number off.

brimfull · 16/01/2008 22:28

chuffin-god even that model can't pull that dress off.

chrissnow-jumper dress with jeans is fine if it's all in proportion. Is jumper dress a petite fitting?

chrissnow · 16/01/2008 22:46

no its regular person sized. I think its probably supposed to just be a long jumper, but 'cus I'm so short its ok as a dress on me!! I suppose I just need to try it and see.

Chrissnow - you sound very hard on yourself.
I bet you are lovely really.
Don't put yourself down all the time.

God, I'd love to be size 8-10 with big boobs.

A decent pair of jeans and some fitted v-neck jumpers are fine for every day. Add a decent coat and a few contrasting pashmina-type scarves and you'll look like you've made an effort. If you don't want to overdo the cleavage, get some white or black vest tops to put under the jumpers.

And learn to love yourself!

chrissnow · 17/01/2008 16:06

I do love meself really. honest I do. I am aware of how lucky I am to have the norks!! I think what was bothering me is I have stopped making an effort in my appearance, got stuck in a rut and its all a bit of a viscious circle. Don't know what looks good 'cus none of my stuff does now (and why would it after 6+ years!!!). I think once I get a 'good' outfir or 2 that I can then go shopping in - I'll have more confidence to buy more nice stuff. A bit like the scene in Pretty Woman . . .

you sound like me chrissnow (but without the norks and the size 8-10 - 5 ft 1, 10-12 and 34B me!). I feel stuck in a rut and just don't know what to buy. Being short is really difficult as even skirts can look really frumpy if they are the wrong length and I never know what tops to wear with them. So I just shove on my jeans and a jumper. This thread has given me some ideas though.

I did have a fringe cut in a few weeks ago and my hairdresser told me it "brought me right up to date"! It did make me feel a bit better.

chrissnow · 18/01/2008 09:20

two falls - are you thread stalking me? . I think we need to make a vow. More effort - no 'throwing on' of frumpy crappy clothes any more!!
(says she bra-less and very bed headed!!!)

I am . OK, have taken the vow (although can I start on Monday? I have old jeans and a threadbare jumper on today. Have brushed my hair there.

(blimey, bra-less and 32E - )

chrissnow · 18/01/2008 16:03

yeah running up and downstairs fetching baby essentials isn't doing anyone any favours!!!
Yes we'll both start Monday (still being she of the pea green jumper). Will use the weekend to be brutal with wardrobe. If I shouldn't leave the house in it - in the charity bag/bin/cut up for dusters pile it goes!!!

OK, off to do the same thing now (I have just discovered that my top is on inside out and a friend has been round for coffee.

Off to sort out wardrobe now.
