What dungarees do you like? (with clips not ties if possible)

I really want some dungarees. But I'm almost 50, and am short (5'2) and round (18-20 with a big bust) and don't really know where to start, not having worn dungarees since the early 90s.

I like the look of Lucy & Yak ones, but I think that the ties would be bloody annoying when you need the loo, so I'd prefer ones with clips that do up quickly.

If possible, I don't want ones that are totally shapeless, or that are very baggy at the back - I'd like a little bit of shape at the waist if possible.

Can anyone here recommend something from personal experience please?

Just read some of the other posts.. my link is also Lewis dungarees !

ShinyMe · 05/07/2022 21:09

Hm... I don't like the look of the Fatface ones, and I'm just not sure why. I think it's that they're denim, it's not something I really ever wear, but I can't say why. I think I want something softer. I didn't make it to an actual shop though.

I looked on New Look, but can't see anything in plus size at all. I don't have a great track record with New Look, as everything for fat people there seems to also assume you're tall.

All the Lucy and Yak ones I like are sold out in my size! I don't feel like the universe wants me to have dungarees after all.

The Jaki ones are a no from me - I can't see what they look like on fat people, but I'm not keen on how low cut they are at the sides. And 'one size' is never good!

You can sew or pin the Lucy & Yak straps instead of tying them. Makes them look a bit more streamlined too.

I love the Lucy Locket Loves ones and they're a button and button hole fastening but there aren't any in stock at the moment so I hope they bring them back soon. There might be some on eBay or resale groups if you look around though.

They're really comfortable and the legs look good rolled up if you need to (but I have short legs and find after they've been washed they're not too long on me anyway.)

I have snagarees from snag, which I love, but they don't have clips.

Do these go baggy round the knees and backside? I wonder with stretchy fabrics whether they lose their shape?

Bugger. I'm so disappointed. I bought some Yaks, and they are terrible on me. They're going to have to go back, and I'm going to get a refund rather than exchange as they're just such a weird shape for me.

The chart said I needed a 24, but the animated step by step thing said I needed an 18. I talked to their customer service who said 18, which is what I got, but they're far far too small round the middle. But at the same time, they're enormously huge on my bum and thighs, like easily twice as wide as my legs, so they balloon out sideways below my bum and make me look really wide all the way down, which I'm actually not. So boooo, and back to square one again.

I really hate online shopping! I like trying things on, and there are so few places for weirdly shaped people to do that now.

Urgh. I'm so grumpy now. I've just trekked round Meadowhall and tried on every pair of dungarees that looked like they may have fit me. The Fatface Lewes were so awful they looked like a comedy thing. The bib is far too small for me - too narrow and far too low, so they were a no, as were the other ones they had.
There were some in Joules which were ok ish, in that they fit me and let me just about sit down, but they were the most rigid thing I've ever worn. There were some in Apricot which were ok ish, but which I couldn't do up on my own, and that was it. There were some nice looking ones in White Stuff, but not in my size, and nothing in M&S or Next or Primark or New Look or Yours.

I may try the Snag ones and see what they're like.

In 5'8" and live in dungarees! My favourites have been from Lucy Locket Loves, but Run and Fly and also Lucy and Yak do some fantastic designs.
Life is too short for boring dungarees.

ShinyMe · 21/07/2022 17:44

I got the snag ones and they fit!

They fit you nicely ShinyMe, and you've styled them well. You look great.
Are the sandals DMs?

ShinyMe · 21/07/2022 18:47

Thanks! They're really comfy, I'm going to get their dress version too, in red. If they had more colours I'd get more.
Yes, they're DMs, they're GLITTERY!

I like Joanie. The models seems to a bit bigger and not so tall. Something like this?

@ShinyMe , If I were you I'd get another pair of snagarees. I think you'll wear them a lot

namechange123x · 21/07/2022 19:12

The Gap do really good ones. My wife is small and they fit her perfectly.

Sheffieldissunny · 21/07/2022 19:12

The snag ones look cool. I'd never heard of them before.

They are comfy! I've been so put off Snag by their twee advertising and their sizing - all that 'size Fabulous' and 'size Gorgeous' nonsense, rather than 18/20 etc where you have some idea where you are. And I hate that they call them snagarees or whatever it is. But they do fit and they are comfy, which is more than any of the others I've tried so far are, so yay!

I wish they had more colours. I'd wear a purple, maybe. I'm not one for head to toe colour though, really. I don't like the grey and head to toe red scares me.

I really like that they have a shape description (well curvy and athletic) rather than just the size

Pifflewiffle · 21/07/2022 20:08

I have these and they are very flattering. I'm 5' size 12/14 hourglass and wear XS for a more fitted look and S for a bit more relaxed. I only have this style and colour . The black does go a charcoal colour after the first wash and looked a bit worn in so was a bit disappointed they didnt stay black for long. But I'm prepared to go with that because they're the most flattering dungarees I've tried. The Lucy and Yak ones made me look dumpy. They do have different styles though and I only tried one.
