Lip filler and my lesson in self acceptance

I have always had tiny lips and made the decision to have lip filler, I went to a clinic that were very well qualified, however the nurse I saw was very unpleasant. The moment she saw me she practically yelled out loud "You have no lips". I kinda told her that was why i was there. Anyway I found the whole process agony and very painful. They are pretty badly bruised today and very tender. I have made the decision that I'm just going to accept my small lips because they are a part of me after all, there is no way I would ever put myself through the pain of lip fillers again. In a way I'm glad that it's made me just realise stuff it, I'm ok as I am. I'll attach a photo of my lips today

It really shouldn't hurt much, the filler should also contain lidocaine to numb you from the inside. Sounds like your nurse was rubbish. I'm glad the swelling has subsided. I have nothing against fillers/botox etc but if you can be happy with what you have, then that is the ideal, isnt it.

I think its a bit early to have seen the light OP. You may feel very differently when they've settled and you see the optimum result.
I've known more than a few offering themselves up as a cautionary tale in the early days after a procedure, due to temporary swelling, bruising, soreness, only to be singing a different tune after a few weeks.
I hope you feel happy with yourself whether you swear off procedures or not.

And there’s nothing wrong with small lips. Or a small nose or small eyes or a big nose or lips or eyes! People are so desperate to look like everyone else that they can’t see how nice they look as themselves. I have thin lips and used to hate them but now my little girl has the same. When she smiles her top lip curls back and it’s so cute and funny, it makes her look really cheeky and mischievous. It’s part of her look.

I say this all the time on here (and I know some don’t agree) but I think basically all people look varying from basically pleasant to really nice. I’ve genuinely hardly ever seen someone who looks really ugly. And yet so many people are so so critical of themselves.

I feel the same. You don't meet ugly people, only ugly personalities.

I went to a nurse led clinic in the south. I was having Botox on my frown lines but when I was there she suggested I should have surgery on my hooded eyes. I hadn't mentioned them or been bothered about them before but now everytime I look in the mirror I see them. I went to the clinic thinking a nurse would be nice and professional but clearly not. I'm sorry you also had a bad experience. I have now found another clinic who are lovely and haven't mentioned more work that I need doing!

@Maireas

Too true! It makes me especially sad as I even hear my young niece and her friends criticising themselves as too fat/ugly etc and talking about nose jobs and whatever else and it makes me think they don’t even know how lovely and gorgeous they are. There’s a vested interest in making people (especially women) feel like they look ‘wrong’ or ‘bad’ and need to spend money to ‘correct’ their flaws.

Kanaloa · 01/07/2022 16:18

And they’re only teens! It starts so early and it’s so ingrained.

Maireas · 01/07/2022 16:33

I'm quite horrified at how early the Botox and fillers start - it seems to be getting younger.

Mrspepperpoi · 01/07/2022 18:50

I also have had thin lips all my life and am only coming to accept them now. I have been tempted to get filler many times, but for me it's just a no no now. I figure in time maybe thin lips will become fashionable like the other trends that have come and gone. Like previous posters have said, there is nothing wrong with thin lips, but I think there is a huge pressure on us all now. Hope you are feeling a little better @frenchmanicure41

cottagegardenflower · 02/07/2022 11:29

Maybe consider having permanent lip liner done. Probably just as painful but you get nicer results I think Make the most of your eyes and don't worry about your lips

flutterbybabycakes · 02/07/2022 14:08

Problem is they stretch the skin and so you need to keep doing it. Hopefully that doesn't happen after only one time.

OompaLoompaa · 02/07/2022 14:57

They’ll be fine in a few days.
I used to have pretty much no lips, now I have ‘normal’ ones.

cabbagepatchdoll12 · 02/07/2022 16:14

Hope they are a little better today op, if you want to try lip filler again, I would go for someone well qualified but it's understandable if it's something you dont want to do again

The irony of a plastic surgery spam marketing post reawakening a thread on self acceptance.

You had a bad nurse OP .. they will be sore for a few weeks..,and then you will love them .. but next time go somewhere else and be confident in what you want

This was from June last year. It's been bumped twice by aesthetics advertising
