slouch of puddle jeans

Have you heard of puddle jeans?
I tried some on yesterday and love them! They are basically flares but don't stick out at the ankle like those that end at the sole of the shoe (in a defined flare shape like a boat sail). Instead, they kind of 'pool' over the foot in a slouchy way.

I noticed these really suited me but they do drag on the floor behind a bit.
What to do??
I don't like wearing platforms of any sort, so would just want to wear my trainers with them.
I could have them taken up a few inches but then the hem is higher above the foot and doesn't have the slouchy look! Shortening them will make them a more defined flare, do you see what I mean?
Or am I mad?

Anyone wear these? Do you just let 'em trail and fray like the 90's never went away? Or do you repress the inner wilderness that longs to burst forth and have them tailored to look neat and appropriate?

This is a serious first world problem that deserves my angst!!Grin

There was thread on this yesterday - some nice suggestions about thicker soled shoes /sandals to help take up the slack. Can't link but it was called something like help with my new jeans

Just checked - it was called I love my new jeans help me wear them

Thank you, I have seen it! I don't like platforms though and these would still drag beneath a 1 inch sole, I would need super high ones!

I really love this length in the picture, they pool at the ankle but don't drag. I may try to shorten them whilst retaining the natural hem.

Are you going to hem them yourself? I'd experiment with taking them up slightly more at the back than at the front. Success depends on how thin and flexible the fabric is but if you can pin them yourself you can see how it looks. If you want to keep the original hem you make the fold just above the current stitching (there are a million tutorials online) making the fold slightly bigger at the back.

I've also tacked jeans at the back, just turn and tack in one or two places by the heel. It sounds odd but it's kind of like what happens naturally when you wear trousers that are too long, except the hem is neatly secured instead of dragging freely.

Depending on the fabric weight both methods can encourage that puddling around the instep.
