She is about a size 10 and I’ve always hated clothes shopping and dressing up but she’s asked my help!

i would be so grateful for any ideas to suggest even just for shops to send her to- I tried Asos but she didn’t even know where to start as there were thousands of things .
Thanks so much

My young teen GD likes to shop in H&M, New Look and Next, especially if I’m paying 😂

VariationsonaTheme · 27/06/2022 14:25

New Look have some school disco suitable dresses at the moment.

Buythebag40 · 27/06/2022 14:26

Have a look at the lipsy dresses from next - I bought my 12 yo a nice black floral one for a wedding from there - they're a good mixture of teen/but not too "old" looking. Also chichi London do good occasion dresses. If you want something a bit cheaper how about the 9-15 range from new look?

these are both from there and less than £20:

My teen wore this to a formal last week & looked adorable, on trend AND got compliments from the older girls:

I would get the medium or even large for a size 10 as it runs very small.

astoundedgoat · 27/06/2022 14:39

Also the straps are adjustable so it doesn’t have to be too low on her.

Forpoxsake · 27/06/2022 14:45

I would say H&M/Bershka are a safe bet.
What does she usually wear at weekends so we can get a sense of her style?
14 is a difficult age as some girls will turn up looking like they are ready to go clubbing.
Dr Marten type sandals with any dress is the trend at the moment

Can she find out what sort of things her friends are wearing and from where? Then just buy similar if your DD is comfortable in it.

The H&M one is very pretty, the two new look ones look very childish.

If she’s short Asos have a good petite range

ABrotherWhoLooksLikeHellMugYou · 27/06/2022 14:52

This is cute. H&M definitely a good shout

I wouldn’t send a size 10 14 year old to the 915 range at new look - too young for a 14 year old.

The main range at new look yes, or H&M

ChickpeaFlour · 27/06/2022 15:07

You are all so amazing . This means so much as I never knew what to wear growing up and this’ll really help her and all look great ideas . Thank you thank you

ps at weekends She’s quite casual, jeans and new balance trainers

Hollister and abercrombie have some lovely dresses too, or urban outfitters is popular too.

If ASOS seems to bust maybe pick some specific brands to filter to eg topshop is on there now

ChickpeaFlour · 27/06/2022 19:41

Two of her friends are wearing red dresses.
She liked the floral crêpe one linked above from H&M which I’ve ordered to try (thank you !) and also she likes this one ?

My daughter is a bit older, but at that age she loved jumpsuits, as she preferred to dresses.

They have a good range at Shein

She loves the jump suits ! Sadly she can’t find her size but it’s really helpful as I can look for others

No spaghetti straps on under 16s... please!

ChickpeaFlour · 27/06/2022 20:16

tippexy are they too grownup ? I am very ignorant on clothing decisions and have had 43 years of getting it wrong which is why I’m here 😄

This would look great with white trainers

Or these dip hem jumpsuits are fun without being too dressy

First link is wrong, I meant this would look good with trainers

What?! Why?

Jellybean23 · 27/06/2022 20:37

Have a look in Primark. They change the ranges so frequently and are always up with the latest trend. Even ask one of the assistants for advice as they will probably close to your daughter's age.

ramonaquimby · 27/06/2022 21:03

Good grief. No spaghetti straps for the under 16s?

TattiePants · 27/06/2022 22:54

Of course spaghetti straps are fine for under 16s. What a ridiculous thing to say.
