Help - Funeral wear for the plump style-less

I have a funeral to attend this Thursday. Problem is, my wardrobe only contains jeans and leggings as I'm a farm worker. It's been years since I bought nice clothes, and I have changed shape since then.

I'm only 5'2" tall, and a size 18/20 clothes. I'd rather not spend a fortune, as once the funeral is over, it's back to the tractors and the animals.

Can anyone help? I'm getting fairly panicky about what I am going to wear!

I’m sorry for your loss.

Here’s a sleeveless dress from Tu at Sainsbury. You could look at their jackets as well if you don’t have one. It hardly seems worthwhile to spend more for a single event.

But do you really never wear anything other than farm working clothes? (I’ve lived on farms and we were in and out of town every week.)

This is available in a petite 20. I’d get something that’ll do into the future if you can. Without wishing to sound morbid, it’s as well to have something in the wardrobe that will be ok for a funeral, as they’re a sad and semi-regular part of life…

I like the look of that, thanks.

No, I don't really go anywhere else, I only spend time at home where I mostly get into PJ's after my shower, as I'm shattered after work. Farming is a lifestyle, rather than a job, and it takes everything. I visit family once or twice a year, or have a UK holiday (need to be able to get back to farm if something goes wrong), but then usually wear jeans! All our money goes into the farm, so not really time or money for a social life. Once in a blue moon, we go for a carvery, but it's a rural area, so most of the people there are also farm or countryside workers, so we're all in farm wear!

Thanks, I'll have a look at that.

You're right, not a bad idea to have a basic in the wardrobe. Though, don't have massive family or social circle, so limited occasions.

It occurred to me that the very simple, ethically made in England clothes at

Community Clothing

might work for you. (Proper shop, not a commune!) They do have black dresses, but I was thinking more generally if you need to replace any everyday garment. Do take a look.

It doesn’t need to be black, any other plain dark colour will work too, like navy or grey. Then you might have more chance of wearing it again.

Personally id get black trousers and a plain top. You can get cheap black trousers anywhere and they dont need to be good quality if you hardly ever wear them.

Can’t you borrow something from a friend?

Do you have shoes ?
