Another fake tan thread, sorry!

I've never been a good fake tanner but my legs look awful and I'm embarrassed to wear a dress.

What's the best low maintenance tan? I'm a bit intimidated by the ones you wash off after 4 hours, I don't know when I could do this, I look after my son and time is really limited.

Best low maintenance tan solutions please?

I use a st tropez gradual tan body lotion a couple of times a week in place of my usual body lotion
It's quite hard to get wrong as it's very subtle more of just a nice smooth glow than a proper tan if you don't use it too often

TwittleBee · 25/06/2022 22:45

I agree with PP about building with a tan body lotion.

Or I really love Skinny Tan's Express Mousse. I leave it on for only an hour then rinse off (I do it as soon as the kids are asleep). Just gives me a subtle glow and lasts a week

Musicalmistress · 25/06/2022 22:54

Dove & Ambre Solaire both do a pretty good gradual tanning lotion. I'm really pale so usually build it up by applying after my shower a couple of times a week all summer.

Floralnomad · 25/06/2022 22:57

My sister , who is extremely pale has been using the Dove tanning mousse and is a very nice colour now .

duckme · 25/06/2022 23:06

I've just bought the st tropes express tan. I used it for the first time yesterday and am Pleasantly surprised. I left it on for an hour and then washed it off so there was none of that horrible stickiness for hours.
It's not perfect on my legs but I think with practice it should be fine.

A gradual tanner is a good basis though, they start so light that any mistakes are quite easy to cover up.

spagbog5 · 27/06/2022 17:17

The only one I ever look good with is Bondi Sands tanning mousse.
It's always flawless and streak free regardless of how i (and dh for my back ) slap it on and is a gorgeous colour.

spagbog5 · 27/06/2022 17:18

Forgot to say you can wash it off from 1 hour after application

doadeer · 27/06/2022 17:34

Thanks everyone. Can't decide which one to try

Bindi Sands is very good because it goes a believable non orange. It's a scary muddy colour when you put it on but I also wash off after an hour and it's pretty fool proof.

The Dove does nothing for me. I have a light/ medium Caucasian skin tone and their "dark" is still too light. Confused

VladsPants · 27/06/2022 17:47

I bought the cheapo St Moriz mousse one after reading a similar thread to this last year. I love it. Goes on dark but washes off to a lovely colour. And I just slapped it on with a mitt for a test run too and it wasn’t patchy or streaky. It’s meant to be rinsed off after 4-6hrs but I just left it overnight. No smell either. And it’s £4.

Livpool · 27/06/2022 19:38

I really like Skinny Tan Wonder Serum. For a bargain one I would say the Superdrug Solait tanning water.

When I have had them on recently people have asked me where I have been on holiday

Laquila · 27/06/2022 21:40

I think the best gradual one is the Dove Summer Revived. I'm fairly pale (sort of yellow-toned though) and it's just right for me - definitely visible but more subtle than the Garnier one.

For slightly more dramatic results I thought the St Moritz mousse was good. Years ago I was a big fan of L'Oreal fake tans - the bronzing gel one used to be really good but I haven't tried it in a long time.

Sleepingsatellite1 · 27/06/2022 21:46

I’ve tried very fake tan in existence 😂 My favourite at the moment is Filter by Molly Mae, go. For light or medium if you aren’t sure but I’ve found it to apply easily with a even realistic colour. I used to love the classic Xen tan but it’s hard to get now.

doadeer · 27/06/2022 22:25

Ahhh everyone has said different ones! I'm dithering

Another one for bondi sands. I used the dark, my pale friend used the light, both lovely. And you can see where you’re applying which I love

asteriodeleven · 27/06/2022 22:34

I'm super pale and love tan luxe gradual tan and their face drops

100% agree. I’ve tried soo many and this one is the best (and cheapest!!!)

enjoyingscience · 27/06/2022 22:43

I’ve tried the dove gradual and bondi sands gradual this year, the bondi sands is a much nicer colour on my pale pale skin, and smells loads nicer too.

I whack it on with a tanning mitt, and no disasters yet (I have really dry legs too, so was super worried they would look weird)

feedyourheed · 27/06/2022 23:07

After years of avoiding fake tan after so many disasters I finally used the bondi sands mousse last night after seeing loads of people say it was a nice colour and didn't streak. I also spent a few weeks exfoliating so leaving nothing to chance. It looks really, really good. Like the golden colour I go when I get a real tan after months in the sun. I am a pale/blue toned kind of skin colour.

Can I hijack and ask a question though? I've put it on - what now? Do I scrub it off in a week and start again? Will it all scrub off or will I be left with patches and never have an even look again? Will it just fade nicely and then I do the shave/exfoliate/tan again after it does?

feedyourheed · 27/06/2022 23:09

Another thing - I didn't really notice stretchmarks on my super pale tummy until the tan developed 😂I have quite a lot of silver lines there now where the tan didn't take.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/06/2022 23:17

I use Garnier Summer Body, which only gives a light colour, but enough to make me not look like a corpse.

TOP TIP - Glycolic acid wipes are amazing for correcting dark patches on knees, heels etc.

doadeer · 03/07/2022 08:12

Well thanks everyone I'm looking like I've been in the carribean for two weeks! Really impressed by bondi sands gradual tanner.

I've bought some tan drops for my face to try aswell as I use Tret so want to add to morning routine

I have been happily using dove gradual tanner for years. I will give the bondi sands one a go as it has been much recommended on here.

HowWillIKnow247 · 03/07/2022 08:31

I like the dove one too and have used it on and off for many years. I am extremely white so I choose the lightest one. I exfoliate and moisturise that morning. Then apply it a few hours later, usually before bed. Then shower again the following morning. It seems like a really natural sun kissed tan to me.

PoloMintPatty · 03/07/2022 09:06

Another super pale person here. I love the Vita Liberata gradual cream which I think gives a lovely natural glow. I just slap it on with a mitt and go to sleep and voila.

Got some more yesterday since it's a 1/3 off at Boots. Not as cheap as the Dove which I also love but a little bit nicer colour
