My face looks a bit permanently tanned in places, with age spots and sort of freckle type spots. In my 50’s now.
What can I do to clear it ?

Hi! I posted about this yesterday. I've only just turned 30 and have started noticed that im getting them.

Im not sure how to link the post but people basically advised that you can either get laser treatment, or use a treatment called Tretinoin. I have just ordered a prescription treatment from Dermatica which includes the above ingredients and is for clearing age / sun spots. It's a monthly prescription which is £19.99 but the first month was actually free so only cost £2.90 for postage. Il post the link;

I'm going to try that and if that fails resort to laser.

At least you're in your 50s, I feel like I'm going to look 100 by the time I'm 50 haha.

Amei · 25/06/2022 13:36

Someone else also recommended a treatment called Ambi Fade x

I'm 39 and recently had a baby, now breastfeeding. I have a brand new moustache made out of tan. I wear factor 30 every day but not sure what the next steps are or it can even be removed. I'm going to speak to a pharmacist soon so will feed back anything they say.

Vitamin c can be helpful for fading hyperpigmentation, Sali Hughes has written a fair bit about it.

KangarooKenny · 25/06/2022 17:57

I’ve got a vit C serum from Boots but it’s done nothing.

You need tret/hydraquinone from Dermatica-I had these marks over forehead and cheeks, this was only thing that faded them!

ItsDinah · 25/06/2022 18:37

Prescription retinoid ( Tretinoin) or hydroquinone will both get rid of them, eventually. They might come back. Quickest is laser and you can get peels that work too.

I use C-Glow vitamin c serum from Geek & Gorgeous, as recommended by someone on here.
It's good because it's cheap, but it has 15% L-ascorbic acid, which is the best type of vitamin c you can get.

I don't have pigmentation or dark spots, but have noticed it makes my skin look more even and glowy, plus it's good to use under sunscreen in the mornings.

On the website, it states it's for 'dark spots, ageing, dull and uneven skin tone'.

This is probably melisma- different than sun damage. It would be worsened by laser so be careful.

Rainraingoaway21 · 25/06/2022 19:08

I had this and tried laser which made it worse so please consider carefully! Only thing proven to help is what other posters have said - tretinoin/hydroquinone and factor 50 every day.

OneFrenchEgg · 25/06/2022 19:16

Interesting I have a really obvious age spot on my eyebrow right at the start and it makes my eyebrow look massive unless I use concealer! I've tried boots posh age spot stuff with no luck and am now trying eucerin age spot fade stuff. I do not want to commit to a monthly payment for ever - would rather try laser.

KalaniM · 25/06/2022 20:32

I’ve used vitamin c and vitamin A and niacinamide and tranexamic Acid and glycolic and mandelic ………… ergh. Now I’m just going to a clinic and having laser treatment.

Tret is good for sun spots but you really need to sort your spf out before using it. It makes the skin more sensitive and prone to burning so you need at least a factor 30 minimum, apply it every day and frequently through the day.

This will also help reduce future damage too.

I wear spf on my face, neck, arms and back of hands every single day except for December and January where the UV is consistently low (and on the advice of my dermatologist)

You need a separate spf, in make or face creams is just not good enough. You need around a teaspoon for face, ears and neck. I use 2 50ml face spfs a month.

Skin and Me do a tret subscription service which is very good.

Also make sure you double cleanse of an evening to ensure you remove all traces of spf.

doadeer · 04/07/2022 21:27

You need tret/hydraquinone

Plus loads and loads of factor 50. Proper stand alone - make sure it's two fingers worth.

It's a long game with Dermatica - takes months and months but it should help

Oceanus · 05/07/2022 15:29

You probably need Glycolic Acid. You can get a toner or a cleanser to use at home or you can go to a dermatologist and do a professional peeling with a higher-strength glyc. acid and then use cheaper products to maintain the result at thome. And lots and lots of a broad-spectrum SPF.

Oceanus · 05/07/2022 15:34

Take the recommendations for subscriptions with a pinch of salt... There was a spammer yesterday, got a little too carried away with their job posting about them! heehhe!
