Semi perm dye that does wash out eventually

Can anyone recommend one? I tried one a couple of years ago (can’t remember which one but likely nice and easy or clairol as I got it in a supermarket) but it bleached my hair and left a distinct growing out line. It was a light ash brown colour. I’m looking for one which really will wash out in the advertised 24 washes or whatever

Bump to see if anyone can recommend

AFAIK they all contain peroxide, but someone may know of one that doesn't.
Highlights or balayage might be an alternative.

Thanks. I just don’t understand how they claim to wash out if they bleach hair and leave a growth line. Otherwise it’s just a permanent dye

The bleaching is only slight. It's not a permanent dye, because the dye washes out, but the bleaching does not go away.

I’m sure my hairdresser said they are all essentially permanent because they change the hair, but “semi permanent” tend to fade faster…so yeah, it might be better to go for a permanent or go to a hairdresser

I don’t want permanent dye though, that’s my point and I get so frustrated with semis saying on the packet that they wash out after x washed, when in fact they have bleach in and leave a growth line!

Then use a temporary colour. Lush Henna is one but I've not used it

That’s the kind of recommendation I’m looking for really, something that colours but washes out. I’m not sure I fancy henna though as I’m not after a red colour

I use a brand called Shrine drop it colour. It’s drops you put in conditioner to add a tone/colour to the hair and not permanent - I’ve had decent success with it on my blonde hair going different shades.

You want something like Stargazer, Arctic Fox, Directions, Manic Panic. Conditioner based dyes

Anytimeiseeit · 24/06/2022 06:45

Thanks both, I’ll look at those ones

Lush Henna was totally not temporary on my hair. It was lovely but not temporary.

Manic Panic sat in dds hair and we had to have it cut out (bright pink, school holiday, dyed the tips).

I warm up my grey/brown hair with conditioner based 'glosses'. Superdrug do quite good ones which are dirt cheap - I slap em on in the bath with a face pack them shower them off. Wella do similar (on Amazon). They seem more subtle.

I like a faint copper tone but where my grey is verging on white it goes pink! I mix the wella gloss and the Superdrug copper to make it a bit more subtle.

I am a fan as you can see - it's a way of moving away from the dye but still giving a bit of a lift.

Oh I have mega porous hair btw. Not sure if that helps with these products or not.
