How many t-shirts do you own? Frivolous wardrobe chat :)

Just curious to know how many t-shirts people own and also where do you buy yours? I have never really worn them until lately, when I realised I was missing out on an essential wardrobe staple. I like good quality ones, happy to spend a bit more for something that lasts (although wouldn't go above £40 as a stretch). I use vinted quite a lot too.

Here is what I have in my t-shirt shelf at the moment:

  • x2 black (one linen, one cotton)
  • x1 white (linen, a bit see through)
  • x2 grey (one linen, one cotton, different shades)
  • x2 striped
  • x1 beige/neutral
I am thinking I need more as I do use them and wash them very frequently so aim to buy: another white one in cotton, another striped one in a funky color, one or two more with more interesting details on them.

What about yours?

About 40, mostly good quality ones, collected over 6/7 years. I like them in summer with linen and chinos and also in spring and autumn

Badger1970 · 23/06/2022 12:12

Probably between 30 and 40.

I need to stop buying clothes Blush

AuntieMarys · 23/06/2022 12:13
  1. All plain colours.I have pared down my wardrobe to a minimum.
Marghe87 · 23/06/2022 12:14

you are making me want to buy so many more! are they all different colors and styles or do you have the same of many?

About 15-20, short sleeve/sleeveless tops/tshirts/blouses. But it's reducing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Purpleavocado · 23/06/2022 12:16

I'd guess between 15 and 20. I'm listing one thing a day on Vinted so hopefully this number will go down over the coming months.

MintJulia · 23/06/2022 12:19

ABout 6 plus a couple of running tops.

I tend to wear woven linen or cotton tops rather than T-shirts. Together I have about 30.

Marghe87 · 23/06/2022 12:21

Yes, just to clarify, I meant short sleeves t-shirts only, not counting blouses, tank tops etc..

In the region of bazillions...mostly black plain or band t-shirts (or Star Wars ones)!

In fact, they are all black.

But that depends on what people wear everyday 🤷🏻‍♀️ if you wear tshirts everyday, you need more. If you only wear them on weekends, you need less. The way my life is right now tshirts=blouses, but it's not the same for everyone

PENandPENCIL · 23/06/2022 12:54

I currently have 10 t-shirts in my wardrobe. Over lockdown I became very aware of how many clothes I had that I never really used. Decided to consolidate my wardrobe and be more eco conscious, carbon footprint and all that. So now I buy my t-shirts from Bungle O, they are printed in the UK, 100% organic cotton, made using renewable energy and are delivered plastic free. They also have a system in place where I can send back their t-shirts once i've worn them out and they recycle them give me £5 store credit per item to replace my last t-shirt. Kids have really got into it too and now we find it quite interesting seeing where the things we'd like to buy come from and how they're made.

LoobyDop · 23/06/2022 12:58

Oh god, about 20. Definitely about four blue and white striped and about six plain white. Partly because I don’t do a white wash that often. Then about another half dozen coloured ones, and another couple of striped. And that’s the ones I wear- I’ve got a few more that turned out to be the wrong shape and I can’t bring myself to throw out.

Marghe87 · 23/06/2022 14:04

@LoobyDop any suggestions on where to get nice plain white ones? I am considering some I have seen on Hush, Whistles and All Saints, can't make my mind up as they all look similar.

LoobyDop · 23/06/2022 14:15

I like the basic Next one. They’ve got a bit of a scoop neckline, which I like because they don’t show under jumpers, and a dipped hem at the back, and cap sleeves. I know that’s the opposite of what lot of people look for though!

DinosaursEatMan · 23/06/2022 14:22

I hate to think how many, easily 100? But I probably only wear around 30 to 40 regularly. Must really have a sort out.

DelphiniumBlue · 23/06/2022 17:18

Loads - probably about 25+. But I use some (most) of them as vests/underlayers rather than tops to be worn alone. Have a variety in different combinations, eg black/grey/white/colured/vest/shortsleeves/long sleeved/vneck/scoop neck/long enough to cover bum/shorter as well as a couple (5) with patterns or designs on them to wear as stand alone tops.

dudsville · 24/06/2022 07:35

I don't wear them often but I've just bought two shirt sleeved tees, one faded black and one an off white/cream colour.

I have two blue tees short and long, two grey short and long, these get worn for messy jobs, and one rosey with a sunset pattern that's good for travel as i can wear it without a bra!

LunaTheCat · 24/06/2022 08:38

Too many to count 🤨. I love t-shirts and will wear them all year - even in winter with layers!

Marghe87 · 24/06/2022 09:00

Thanks for all the replies - very open to brand suggestions as there are a lot of tshirt lovers in this chat :)

WillYouDoTheFandango · 24/06/2022 09:03

I was going to recommend the scoop necked next one. The white isn’t at all see through and washes well. I bought a neon pink one that I’m living in. I had a T-shirt cull recently and probably have about 10 now.

OompaLoompaa · 24/06/2022 09:15

White Hush £35 (one of the best things I’ve ever bought)
pastel camouflage Hush £35 or £40 (I haven’t bonded with it)
5 cheap short T shirts from New Look, perfect for indoors with long or short pj bottoms £5 each.

DavinaRavina · 24/06/2022 09:23

I love these sorts of threads! Love a bit of wardrobe analysis (over-analysis in my case) 😁

I have:

  1. Poetry via Vinted blush pink linen tshirt 2, 3) Lucy & Yak oversized tshirt with slightly embarrassing graphic prints...x2
  2. Long sleeve black t-shirt from H&M
  3. My favourite short sleeve tshirt which now has a grease spot on it 😫, navy v neck from Gap (£5 in the sale)!
  4. long sleeve burgundy tshirt which is actually a mens one from M&S in their mens tall range. It's great as really long

I think that's it for tshirts! I have 3 x tank tops which I either wear as vests or sometimes on their own for sport as well

DavinaRavina · 24/06/2022 09:24

Oh that's annoying! My phone/the new site has messed up my numbering 😑

It was 6 tshirts.

PegasusReturns · 24/06/2022 09:26

Hardly any, I think I have two that I wear occasionally, but I’m really not a t-shirt person at all.

userhjf67 · 24/06/2022 09:29

I have about 20, in fairness some need replacing now, mine are all white, black, navy and varying lengths a few to sling on with leggings etc and others I wear with jeans, I were them most days for work
