Eyelash tint and lift, eyebrow tint at home

I remember in lockdown reading about a few people doing this. Just thinking about starting it myself as £600 a year in the salon in this seems too much!

Any tips and product recommendations welcome please.

I think the lift might be too tricky but I’d like to try tinting my lashes and brows. Happy to hear otherwise on the lift though!

thanks

Shameless bump for the evening crowd 😊

I tint both eyebrows and eyelashes at home using Refectocil. So inexpensive and straightforward.

I use the light brown for eyebrows and the black for lashes - my natural hair is auburn/light brown and my eyelashes are quite blonde. I mix the colour with the developer in a little pot using a clean mascara spoolie.

All the shades seem to come out darker than you expect, you always need to leave lashes on longer than brows due to the natural oils and I find eyelashes a bit stingy, but I do at the salon too.

Brows are super easy - buy some hair dye, mix a small amount with equal amounts of the developer on a bit of tinfoil. Protect the bits you don’t want dying (like your skin) with Vaseline. Apply with a cotton bud. Leave 30mins and wash off with a wet cotton wool ball.

One pack of hair dye lasts years (I replace the pack every year because I don’t know how long it stays good once opened).

The advantage to hair dye is you can pick the exact colour you want - I’m a redhead and got sick of having to choose between white eyebrows or dark brown dyed brows, both of which looked weird.

I have doing my brows with Refectocil light brown for about 12 years. I have tried my lashes but too much of a faff to do it by myself but would be ok if you had a willing teenager to help😀

Thanks everyone! I’m going to have one last trip to the salon before my holiday, but then I’m going to try at home.

Tinting at home should be no problem, but I wouldn't chance a lash lift on myself. From what I remember, eyes need to be completely closed before applying perm type solution. Has all sorts of potential to go wrong.

Yes I’m sure you’re right. I’m sure there were a thread over lockdown about people doing it but I can’t find it.

My friend Lent me hers in lockdown. I did eyebrows easily, but found eyelashes too stingy.

How long does the refectocil last on your brows? I’ve been using eyelure tint and I only get a few days out of it

ultimatehelicopter · 23/06/2022 08:26

I usually get 2-3 weeks out of my refectocil tint for brows - it fades quite gradually so I don't always notice and have to set a reminder in my diary. I do use oil cleanser and brow gel makeup though which probably breaks it down more quickly.

I bought a lash lift kit for home use having watched several YouTube videos which made it look easy.

It’s a complete faff and didn’t work. Mind you, I’ve also had it done at a salon and could barely see any difference. I have really long eyelashes and the beautician assured me it was going to look amazing. It did not.

I’ve used Eyelure brow dye on my mum as hers went quite white. It works really well.

I have never bothered with a lift so get eyelash and brow tints including shaping at £15 a go which feels worth it to me. I have tried Eyelure but couldn't get it to work on my eyelashes. Interesting about refectocil. I haven't heard of that.

I lift my eyelashes and tint them as well at home. I don't find the lift hard to do(first time obviously had it's learning curve) so long as you do it one eye at a time and have a good glue, the one that comes with the kit is terrible (I use the iconsonsign kit but apparently terrible glue is universal in the most kits). I use the eyelash lift glue from reflectocil instead.

I also use their dye, the black blue which gives the deepest black, more so than the normal black. With reflectocil dyes it's worth noting you need to buy the developer separately, I use the cream version so it's more of a paste that resembles a fresh out of the box mascara consistency, then I just apply it liberally with a throwaway mascara spoolie that comes with the lash lift kit and apply like mascara, very easy to do.

Thanks for the refectocil info. Will try it out!
