What on earth do I wear to Disney in October?

I never wear shorts, they make me feel dumpy. I'm 5ft 2, size 12 and 42yrs. I always wear summer dresses. Any suggestions? I'm thinking dresses won't be very practical for the rides. Do I just suck it up and go the whole hog in shorts, trainers and a bum bag? I think I'll look ridiculous!

Orlando weather can be changeable - it can be hot and sunny one day to cold another to literally practically flash floods a good pair of shoes as well you can get wet is useful as well

Yes, definitely a cardi/jumper for the aircon. DD and I went to the cinema one afternoon, and I was frozen.

Have you been before? There are lots of very, very fat people there. Not English fat / absolutely huge and they drive around on scooters.
temperatures are usually quite high in Florida in October half term around 25/26, but indoor it gets chilly.
I usually wear short/long shorts and a t-shirt in the parks. But stretchy dress are good too.

Actually 10 years ago I'd have been really surprised to see anyone wearing shorts in Paris in October but it wouldn't surprise me now tbh! Still, Florida's much nicer! Have fun and don't forget to take a hat.

A dress with cycling shorts underneath. Bumbag or backpack are both common.

I wore dresses with trainers and a bum bag

I just went and recommend shorts as not only is it hot but you get wet on splash mountain. Though in fairness a longer dress you could tuck between your legs would have been fine IMO. I didn't see any fanny packs...my oversized purse (sort of diaper bag-esque tbh) with zipped pockets was perfect. The most important thing is the shoes. I will definitely do more prep around shoes if we go again. I was ready to hacksaw off my own feet by the 2nd day.

I was last there around ten years ago and wore Fit Flops...I know they're not everyone's style these days but my feet weren't sore at all.

Shorts definitely and trainers. You will be dressed like 99% of people there.

wear trainers because you do so much walking. I found they didn't get too wet except on the raft ride at DAK which I did at the end of the day.

The one day I wore flip flops because we were planning on going on the universal water rides I felt stupid because I was the only person not in trainers and i had to take my shoes off and sit on them on some rides.

I took one backpack DH held and I wore a tiny over the shoulder waterproof passport holder type purse for my phone map and bit of money/ card and drivers licence.

And a hat. I wanted ears by the end of the holiday but I needed to keep my head covered. If you are buying ears get them cheap in the UK in advance as they are $30 in the parks!!!

It was good to wear a baseball cap at the waterparks to keep the sun off my head and face and also water shoes are good as the ground gets hot. I wished I'd bought a cute water Shorts and t shirt outfit. I was fine in my swimming cossie but next time I'm buying a surfer girl outfit for water parks.

We went in October about 20 years ago. It wasn't the heat but the humidity that was the problem. I wore shorts and cotton t shirts. Remember that it's hurricane season so storms are likely (we didn't experience one but the weather went a lot cooler the day before we flew home and there was one that made landfall 24 hours after we got back to the UK).

MadameOvary81 · 22/06/2022 09:16

It's hurricane season then - lots of topsy turvy weather - so pack a light raincoat/kagool type of jacket if you have one. If not, prepare to get wet. The storms are crazy when they hit - usually short lived - but you can be up to your shins in rainwater in seconds. Get inside when it's like this. I lived in Orlando for 3 years and it used to amuse me the amount of tourists who would continue to walk around in said water during a thunderstorm!

If you find the clothes/shoes you pack aren't cutting it, use it as an excuse to spend the day at one of the huge designer outlet malls on International drive. The Gap store is particularly good for a bargain. Dresses for as little as a dollar and hoodies $5-10. ;)

Otherwise, have a fabulous time!
