Plantar Fasciitis, what can I do?

Have restarted a new job a month ago where I'm commuting into the office 2 days a week (train and tube) and have noticed Plantar Fasciitis has got worse - on one foot where I rarely had it before but sometimes and now on the other foot but twinges. I don't get it much, if at all, at home but am definitely walking a lot more (e.g. up and down stairs both in and out of office on commute). Was WFH since March 2020.

Just wearing normal trainers and sometimes flat work shoes.

Should I get fit flops? Or similar? I did buy some insoles for it (plastic?) but not used yet. Anything else I can try? Doctor?

Get the Scholl insoles.
I'm a physio and tried all the exercises on mine. They helped but not massively.
It used to bring tears to my eyes.
The Scholl insoles sorted it in a month.
They are half insoles, mine were off Amazon.

Oh wow! Thanks. Getting those then!

Maybe we should get MN to save this info somewhere as lots of good info and personally I think it's really important, loads of women (and men) my age from 40 onwards get it!

Doing yoga 3-4 times a week sorted mine out. Nothing stretches my calf muscles like downward facing dog! Getting out of bed in the morning used to be agony, even getting up from the sofa I would wince and limp. Now I don't even remember the pain.

I don't have PF but agree with this this calf stretching. Yoga with plenty of down dog is the best for that for me

@cheeseisthebest Definitely see your GP first who will send you off to see an expert. Don't assume it's PF based on the symptoms and then try and correct it by yourself. That's what I did, partly because a doctor -who wasn't an expert on this- told me it was probably PF but an expert has since said it's unlikely to be that, so now I'm booked for an MRI as it's looking like the result of an injury about 4-ish years ago. Honestly, if you can see a specialist first, instead of buying shoes for this or insoles for that.

Buy fly of London shoes. Avoid flat shoes Birkenstock type are ok because they have a raised arch support. That is key

Ok thsnk you.
Am starting a new job in a weeks time with private health care so thinking about hanging on just a bit longer

Oceanus · 23/06/2022 12:10

@cheeseisthebest I think that's wise of you and cheaper in the long run too. If you're in the UK maybe seeing your GP wouldn't be such a bad idea as you can get the ball rolling now, you could save time by getting the x-ray too for when you see the expert. Foot pain is a pain in the behind 😁Good luck!
