Calling all pale peeps - please recommend a foundation that's not too sodding dark!

Can anyone recommend a light foundation for truly pale skin? Or a BB/CC cream? Every single one I try is too dark. Just wasted money on another one, chose the lightest shade in the range and it's still too dark for my skin. I'm fair skinned, hazel eyes. I don't look as pale as I really am, if that makes sense. In the past when sales women have recommended foundations, they've always been surprised that they are too dark.

The only thing I can use at the moment is a very old foundation powder from Lily Lilo, but was wondering if there's anything available on the high street that is suitable?

In terms of cool/warm/neutral - no idea but tend towards warmer shades.

Have you seen the St Tropez facial tanning mist, @PunishmentRoundupWithJoon? Absolutely brilliant. I'm ginger with hazel eyes and sickly grey skin. I mist this on my face every third day and it gives me the sublest hint of colour - I look really healthy and well, rather than my usual ill and grey. I put on Clinique Superblock City Defense on top (sunscreen with the slightest of tints) and my skin looks great.

The good thing about the St Tropez stuff is that you just mist it on - no blending or faffing; it dries quickly and you're good to moisturise or whatever.

Chanel goes really pale in some things. But yeah it's tricky! Once you find one that works put it in findation as PP suggests.

I’m very pale and have always found Clinique Even Better foundation in Linen a good match

I go back to Max Factor time and again. Whatever they happen to be calling their palest shade.

Also had some success with Lancome Teint Idole.

SylvanianFrenemies · 20/06/2022 20:12

Max Factor Miracle Touch in shade 40.

WeeM · 20/06/2022 21:39

Estée Lauder Shell (1C0) is the palest they do and is even slightly pale for me and I am deathly pale, also dark hair. I have used cool bone in the past but it makes me slightly orange as it’s the wrong undertone for me. I’m starting to feel that doublewear is starting to sit in my lines though.

SandyWedges · 20/06/2022 22:05

Tom Ford?

MsClavel · 20/06/2022 22:10

I am very pale. I have tried a few, always go back to Bobbi Brown. Sometimes can get decent colour match in other brands but I always find that they start to go orange after a few weeks of being open. This is extremely obvious on my skin. Also find the Bobbi Brown good for my dry skin. Lots of other foundations look flakey on me after an hour or two of wear (and then also look orange!).

MrsFinkelstein · 20/06/2022 22:14

Another recommendation for Lisa Eldridge here. I use No.2, but No.4 was also a close match (cool or neutral undertones).
Fenty have an excellent shade range too.

Bouledeneige · 20/06/2022 22:17

I'm very pale and use Clinique. But why don't you get a member of staff on a make up counter in a department store to test which is the right colour for you?

itsabingting · 20/06/2022 22:22

Look at NYX in Boots, they have about 100 shades

waltzingparrot · 20/06/2022 23:01

I've used Leichner Camera Clear for years and it's suited my dry skin all the way through. I'm very fair and Blend of Porcelain is the lightest shade they do and suits my skin. Amazon sell it.

@Anytimeiseeit - that's a great tip, thank you. Never heard of that before, but makes sense. It'd be great to be able to use the ones I have!

NYX go super pale, i cant vouch for their foundations as not used them but their concealers go very pale and very decent quality for a high street brand (I am a freckly, A4 sheet of paper white) Just start right at the bottom of the range but they do them in boots so you can go and try testers.
Other than that, Nars sheer glow goes very pale (search for Nars Sheer Glow pale swatches in google and you can see the varying undertones etc) and i've just had their radiant creamy concealer and its exceptionally good. As in, im annoyed that its taken me so long to try it good as it would have saved many a getting ready stress!

EarthquakesinEastActon · 20/06/2022 23:27

L’Oreal Infallible in Porcelain. I have had the same problem as you all my life and this has solved it, I’ve been using it for at least a decade.

PinkArt · 20/06/2022 23:44

Nars have got a good selection of ghost shades with their tinted moisturiser, so would be worth a look for foundation too. I've just bought Erborian's BB cream in clair which was thrillingly pale enough for me.

TealAndTurquoise · 21/06/2022 00:08

@PunishmentRoundupWithJoon I'm dark haired and pale with some freckles and I use Nars Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc. Have you tried using the foundation matcher on the Harvey Nichols website? It lets you check a new foundation against your current brand and shade and I've found it helpful in the past. Harvey Nichols foundation matcher

Tallulasdancingshoes · 21/06/2022 09:27

Nars do a nice tinted moisturiser/BB cream. Their Sheer Glow foundation is also great. Nars do some very light shades with different undertones so could be worth a look. Bobbi Brown skin foundation stick also has loads of shades with some very fair ones.

CMOTDibbler · 21/06/2022 23:01

I'm naturally very pale, and even more so since I've had to totally keep out of the sun. Mac studio fix works for me, but I've recently been using Trinny bff and been very pleased with the shade and the way it sits on my menopausal skin

LaFloristaCalista · 22/06/2022 06:31

Have you tried BFF De-stress by Trinny London. They do an alabaster shade

TanteRose · 22/06/2022 06:37

Another Trinny London convert here - try the Match to Me service online, it’s really good

DiscoBadgers · 22/06/2022 06:39

Nars Mont Blanc is great. And the tinted moisturiser comes in very pale shades too and gives good coverage.

Fritilleries · 22/06/2022 06:41

Nars Mont Blanc. A little goes a very, very long way.
