Using Retinol when on holiday in a sunny country.

I've been using Retinol for a few months, with great effect. Skin much improved. I wear a moisturizer with SPF daily. But a bit worried about going on a sunny holiday. Should I stop using it? Any recommendations for an alternative? Thanks.

apply at night, wear sunscreen and reapply, protect your face with a hat

SPF50, reapply often, make sure you're using enough and a wide brimmed hat.

I use Ultrasun or Thank you Farmer.

I'm in Italy and it's currently about 35 degrees. I haven't stopped using tret.
You only use retinol at night and should always have an spf50 anyway, so you don't need to stop using it.

I do only use it at night, and use SPF 30/50 every day. But I just wondered if I should stop using it altogether for the holiday. If it's ok to do so, then i'll keep using it. Thanks.

A moisturiser with SPF doesn't give enough protection

I use skin + me and stop using it on holiday. Even with 50 factor and a big hat I am finding my skin is more sensitive to sun so I just feel happier skipping the Tret for a week or two

LetitiaLeghorn · 19/06/2022 16:35

I'm going gains the majority here.
I use tretinoin but I do take a break on holiday. It's OK if you live in a country because its part of your routine and you're often actively avoiding the sun. But when you're on holiday and you're out and about and sweating, I wouldn't risk it. A week or two break won't make any difference in the long run. I stop using about 3 days before I go to make sure the outer skin layer has thickened up.

Why does a moisturizer with SPF not give the same protection as sunscreen? Is that what you mean Mercurial123?

I use this or this in the day. Is that not enough? Do you mean I should use something like this?

Because you never put as much moisturizer on as you do SPF. Ditto foundation.

Personally I would skip it for a week. I find I can get slightly reddish dry patches under my eyes and around my nose and I don't like the thought of them being exposed to full sun.

I'm a big fan of the LRP Anthelios Anti-Ageing moisturiser, which is SPF50, but I always use Bioré on top of it when on hols/in summer.

Thanks!
