Looking old - diet, creams, filler, Botox???

I don’t know if it’s the effects of the last couple of years or just natural ageing but I sudden look old. I’ve got deep frown lines and nasolabial folds and my cheeks seem to have dropped. I don’t have any other wrinkles as such but I just have a ‘grumpy’ look and have aged about 10 years.
I’ve been looking at fillers but worried about side effects.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

How old are you, OP?
I don't want to say anything irrelevant in case you're say, 34 (and I'm coming from my 50-year-old perspective).

Botox and fillers. I felt like you and like I had suddenly aged overnight. I never thought I would be a Botox and fillers person as have never thought of myself as vain at all. I had it done 6 months ago. It’s very subtle, but makes me look so much better and restored my confidence. No side effects and no one can tell. I just look fresher I think.
Just make sure you go to a reputable place.i think you can spend a fortune on creams and different beauty treatments, but botox and fillers really work. I am so glad I went for it.

Diet & water go a long way. I hate drinking 2l water a day but dammit it does work.

I eat really healthily too. I don’t hate it but I’d live on Sancerre, ginger biscuits, McDonald’s & frazzles if I could.

Led face masks work too, mines old so it’s only 3 colours and no neck attachment. Amazon have loads.

Following Op as I've just hit 40 and feel the same!
Thinking of starting with some forehead Botox and taking it from there

Justonemoreepisode · 19/06/2022 11:08

I’m coming up to 40 - I’m conscious that might be subconsciously impacting how I’m feeling 😕

What's it botox and fillers? Aren't they harmful?

GettingStuffed · 19/06/2022 11:34

It doesn't matter what you do to your face your hands and neck and inner elbows also show signs of aging. I wouldn't go down the BOTOX fillers route as I'm sure there are better things you could spend that money on, especially as the cost of living is rising drastically.

There's nothing wrong with wrinkles. Good skincare can make even wrinkled skin look great. Today's routine is nip&fab facial scrub. Toner followed by polyglutamic acid serum, allegedly more moisturising than hyalauronic acid. Then topped off with a rich moisturiser with SPF. I added some collagen drops as it still felt a little dry. I have wrinkles but my skin looks fine and glowy.

I think a nutrient rich diet can work wonders on how you look and feel. I'm 50 and happy with how I look now. I eat as many vegetables and fruit as I can cram in and avoid sugar, processed food and dairy.

Stress reduction is another thing that can effect how you look and feel. Look in to meditation and mindfulness. Get outside and in nature.

Exercise is vital. Find something you enjoy and do it as often as you can. I love yoga and strength training at home.

Dr. Chatterjee and Dr Rupy Aujla are good people to follow for advice and tips on lifestyle.

If you can afford it then do it. If t makes you feel and look better it's win win. Fillers and Botox are safe if administered properly. Go for natural and 'refreshed' rather than trouty

Weird, I was just looking at some stuff on reddit, images of very young instagram influencers having fillers/botox/lips done, etc. The upkeep looks insane, and I would seriously be concerned about long term effects and how often I would have to maintain this crap to keep the providers bank account filling up!

Some effects need scrutinising. the possibility of facial distortion over time, drooping eye/mouth corners and so on.
The usual MN idea of 'subtlety' sounds great, but I can't ignore the long term issues that might arise.

I remember an episode of Father Ted where he borrowed someone's car and Dougal managed to get into a smash up. They ludicrously tried to fix it by hammering dents into it to even out the damage, until the entire car was covered in holes. Sounds silly, but I wonder if that is the ultimate result of long term facial alteration, as the body ages and skin loses it's elasticity, how could one avoid having to go further and further?

This puts me off. I love seeing older faces that look elegant and healthy. That said, I dont have an issue with older faces that don't. I am the awkward type of person who would rather alter my mind and perceptions than my face. That said, I am not remotely against body modification, but there are elements of it that i distrust.

I can recommend facial yoga/exercises though. More subtle and not achived overnight, but definitely worth a look.

And call me weird, but I dont believe a face, on it's own, looks grumpy without the mind behind it causing that. We are to self critical, but i do think the face as we age tells who we are inside and how satisfied we are with out life/feelings.
I only see older, grumpy faces when the person within is grumpy, or needs a good long holiday or night's sleep.

Looking at Sarah Ferguson and how dreadful she looks to me is an ad for NOT having any work done, how much worse could she look if she’d left well alone.

janesmithsdog · 19/06/2022 13:34

Botox, gallons of water and exercise are what I’ve settled on. It’s keeping pace for me so far (44 and people usually think I’m late 30s).

Titsflyingsouth · 19/06/2022 13:51

My late Nan, bless her, drilled into me the virtues of a decent mosturiser and drinking lots of water at a young age. Moisturiser doesn't have to be an expensive one. I use Aveeno and it's the business.

Also, I've noticed my skin looks noticeably more dewy since I've cut down on bread and sugar.

I’ve just ordered collagen drinks, vitamin c serum, reitinol, and a gym membership. I’ve started finally to look old and I’m getting the blood flowing and targeted skin stuff. It’s always a multipronged attack. Diet really is huge and that’s what’s kept me looking great but I’ve never exercised in the past and I forked out the big bucks for my products. I’m not giving up this ghost.
