You’re flying from the cold UK to a very hot country, what do you wear?

It’s always cold on the plane, but the moment you step off the aircraft it’s boiling. There’ll be some faffing about getting the hire car in the heat, but then you’ll have air con.

Do you take a dress or something to change into?

How do you manage this?

I usually pack a pair of shorts in my hand luggage and change when DH is waiting for the cases. Wear light layers then you can remove as needed

HippeePrincess · 18/06/2022 20:23

Leggings and vest top with some kind of shirt or hoodie that you can just take off.

Clymene · 18/06/2022 20:24

Leggings, vest top, layers.

Zazdar · 18/06/2022 20:24

I change on the plane.

QueenofLouisiana · 18/06/2022 20:26

Tshirt style maxi dress with thermal leggings or footless tights underneath. Leather jacket, large scarf which doubles as a blanket in the plane.

RewildingAmbridge · 18/06/2022 20:27

Comfy cotton/Jersey dress of some kind with leggings and a cardigan/jumper. Leggings and jumper come off at the destination airport

thenightsky · 18/06/2022 20:35

Cropped knee length trousers and sleeveless top in hand luggage. Change in plane toilet.

This reminds me of the time we flew back from India, and ended up having a stop over in Moscow. It was January, about 28C in Delhi and about -10C in Moscow. Cabin crew started layering up with fur (faux?) and we had to trot across the tarmac in our shorts.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 18/06/2022 20:42

Linen is surprisingly warm, so I'd probably wear linen trousers and linen tshirt and add a merino sweater and scarf.

I'd wear trainers on my feet I think. maybe something like merino wool runners, which again can work in all seasons. You can get waterproof ones and they are not too warm in warmer countries with bare feet. But wear socks in the UK.

I'm guessing this is going to be in winter?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/06/2022 20:44

Dress with tights and cardigan. I remove tights and cardigan on arrival.

Pennyhill22 · 18/06/2022 20:46

Midi Dress and sandals. I bring socks and a cardigan in my bag if plane is cold.

SeaToSki · 18/06/2022 20:46

I do this every year. Dress warm but in layers with a tank top as my base layer, then put shorts, sunglasses and flipflops in my hand luggage. Change in the loos on the plane or while waiting for my checked bags to come through.

Paddingtonthebear · 18/06/2022 20:50

Yep something like jeans or leggings with a a light vest top and a cardigan on top and shorts or skirt to change into when you get to the destination airport.

Reminds me of many years ago flying back from Caribbean to UK in depths of winter only wearing t shirt and shorts. Then having to de-ice the car at the airport. Then arriving home and still wearing said shorts and t shirt to the local chip shop 😆

Bobnotpop · 18/06/2022 20:51

No not in Winter, but flight leaves very early and it’s cold on board anyway.

I love all the ideas for dress/cardigan with tights or leggings that can be removed on arrival, that sounds like the most efficient option.

Every time I fly now I wear a Sweaty Betty Gary jumpsuit. Hoody for if it’s cold on the plane.

pixie5121 · 18/06/2022 21:26

I'm all about layers.

I usually go for good quality leggings, Converse, baggy T-shirt dress, cardigan, leather/denim jacket, floaty scarf. Then I take off or put on stuff as needed. Have flip flops/sandals in carry on so change into those if necessary after I land.

Weelegs29 · 18/06/2022 21:33

Leggings, long tshirt, hoodie, trainers. Leggings and hoodie off on landing, usually I can cope with the trainers still until we get to resort. I always take a pair of fluffy socks or those totes slipper things in my hand luggage because plane is always freezing with having the aircon on!

spagbog5 · 19/06/2022 19:31

I always wear Hush linen trousers that are like harem pants but linen with a white short sleeve t shirt and a white cropped sleeve jumper on top with white pumps and a scarf for a blanket on the plane then just tie scarf round handbag straps on arrival and pop jumper in my bag.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 19/06/2022 23:59

I’ve just done this and went for cotton M&S patterned culottes with a plain vest top and a lightweight hoodie. I wore trainers because i needed them for sports on holiday but otherwise would have worn sandals (and taken socks in my hand luggage to wear on the plane). Wore the hoodie from the UK & simply took it off and put into my hand baggage on arrival. Easy.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/06/2022 00:27

Skirt (not a short one) and vest top with cardie or hoodie over.

I had the same one year. Incredibly hot southern India and arrived back to snow on the ground and was travelling home by train!! Luckily I had lots of layers I could put on.

Topseyt123 · 20/06/2022 01:03

I always wear shorts and a t-shirt with a cardigan. When we arrive at our hot destination I just stuff the cardigan into my hand luggage.

If it was actually wintry weather in the UK then I would substitute a pair of jeans for the shorts and the shorts would be shoved into the suitcase.

Sofasogood1 · 20/06/2022 01:08

You wear what you'd wear in the hot country with maybe a layer on to keep you warm on the plane. Or whatever is suitable. A jacket one can take off. A cardy. Thicker socks. Perhaps a cotton scarf. Just.... Things to keep you warm on the plane. HTH

CinnamonJellyBeans · 20/06/2022 07:44

Unless you have Reynaud's, wear your destination clothes. Bring a cardigan and fluffy socks for the plane.

Twilightstarbright · 20/06/2022 09:32

I have a pac-a-Mac from Uniqlo but it’s actually a downfilled coat, absolutely fantastic for travel.

Ive got thin thermal leggings and long sleeve tops from Tu and I’d probably layer a dress over them. Travel in my gym trainers.
