Any MUA here- talk to me about the Duchess of Cambridge eye make up

Not being nasty about her but just fancied a chat. I'm never quite sure about eye make up (for me) and I tend to use a single neutral shadow (Bobbi Brown) in a medium grey/ beige (Cement). If I carry it into the crease it just looks too heavy.

I've noticed that D of C has a single colour on the lid but recently she's using a very rusty shade in the crease and almost up to her brow. very close-up photos in the Mail today of her at Ascot.

Is there a 'reason' for this, to create a hollow, or whatever?

I've noticed that when older women are 'made up' for events, the MUA tend to do heavy eye make up (when I say older I mean in their 80s like Judi Dench.)

I used to think the rule was less is more, but am confused.

I have just googled and wow I don’t like that particular effect.

It looks to me like her usual upper lid wash has just gone a bit heavy on this particular occasion - if you Google “Duchess of Cambridge Ascot” images you can see there is always a dark colour over most of her lid, with highlighter on her brow bone and darker shading on the lash line and in the hollow of her eye. So similar to what she had this year. But this year the colour on her lid is really heavy, so you notice it more (especially against the brow highlighter).

I’m not sure if it’s a deliberate effect so much as somebody being a bit heavy-handed. She usually looks great so I’m sure she’s allowed one makeup off-day.

its a very 80s look, but all round the fashions seem to be back into the 80s and with KB at no 1 it tops it off

Just googled - love her outfit, but yes, the eyeshadow is not blended very well.
I have hooded lids, so don't really do eyeshadows, just a very pale one and eyeliner.

mdinbc · 17/06/2022 23:20

Mind you, there was a picture of her from 2019, and the eyemakeup was exactly the same, so it must be her 'formula' look.

It's pretty standard to take it above the crease but you would usually use a transition colour then something in the crease and a lid shade so it's a gradient
Alexandra anele on YouTube does great tutorials - see pic
I mean there's no rules as such, some people take one colour all the way up or just wear it on the lid or whatever you want

Im not a MUA but I know that they do that to lift the look of the eye at the outside corners- that fox eye look. Maybe she was enjoying having fun as opposed to having the more conservative look of all the Jubilee. Lots of tutorials on You Tube about this.

MsDirection · 18/06/2022 09:22

I loved the colour but thought it needed softening/blending more. I agree with MsOllie.

Chewbecca · 18/06/2022 09:34

I think it is just not very well blended. Bit like what I would do!

hopeishere · 18/06/2022 09:47

Over from the royal thread!

I think it's not well blended but then I was wondering if it was to make her eyes stand out more in photos? But then it might look odd in person.

They must all spend a fortune on getting their make up done!
