Capsule wardrobe or style rut?

How do people with capsule wardrobes avoid the "Wearing the same outfit over and over" feeling? Everything in my wardrobe/drawers seems so similar.

Nearly all my tops (both winter and summer) are versions of navy blue, white or black (2 pink t shirts)

I've got white, beige, navy or denim bottoms.

Pink, black, red or navy dresses plus a couple of floral ones.

I know I suit these colours but is it boring and predictable or have I totally inadvertently developed a capsule wardrobe? I seem to be wearing a deep winter palette by accident but it makes sense as pastels look awful on me. I've been colour matched at Boots as Cool Vanilla.

I have recently started using a capsule wardrobe system but I found I had way too many of one type of thing (especially prints, and jeans, and black trousers) and not enough of other things (still need a denim jacket that fits).
It was very revealing in that way - and I have bought some more basics (in colours that suit me - I don't suit black or red, though I like them and had lots of them - and pieces that I didn't really know how to wear - e.g. vest tops, over shirts - which are actually very handy, and mean I wear other things more - so today I'm wearing a print skirt, navy top, and loose grey jacket since I don't have a denim jacket, which feels different to my previous rotation of print top and plain bottoms every single day, with a navy cardigan if cool).
I am still working out things like how many vests I need, though.

The guide is here but ignore the cheesy name. I tried out the free downloads and decided it was worth getting the full guide once I'd found a decent discount (approx 75% IIRC!)

“Wearing the same outfit over and over" is surely just the nature of the capsule and whether that inherent lack of variety is a good feeling or a bad feeling depends on how you look at it. In the past I’ve found that having a limited work “uniform” reduced stress but in general I like the option of lots of clothes, prints, fabrics, styles depending on my mood as well as the situation.

I’ve worked on making my clothes more complimentary though and thinking about outfits. That included limiting the colour palette somewhat (I’m also a winter) - but I don’t find that boring as I think wearing colours that you enjoy or suit you just makes sense. Ive also worked on making sure I have enough plain stuff to go with the prints or embellished stuff - I’m a magpie and resent buying plain basics but doing so properly has improved how I dress and made everything else more versatile. So now my wardrobe is mostly cohesive and flexible, which is the main advantage of a capsule for me, without the repetitive feeling of a very limited number of items.

Thank you both for replying.

I'm going to check out that link @drspouse I'd like to get my colours done professionally but I think as I'm mid 50's now I'll probably wait until I bite the bullet and stop dyeing my hair as what suits my current hair colour might not suit my natural grey locks. I'm apple shaped so I've already ditched shapes/styles that don't suit me. I'm yet to find anything other than a cardigan in knitwear that suits me though.

@LeeMiller I've found a top (in Morrisons of all places) that is flattering and comes in "my" colour palette so I've bought at least half a dozen and I wear them in rotation. I agree that knowing that stuff suits you and goes well with other pieces is much less stressful. I don't have a lot of patterned items - maybe that's a way to introduce a bit of variety.

I think I'm just imagining that my friends and family think I'm wearing the same clothes all the time. I'd struggle to remember what my friend was wearing last week when we had lunch so I can only assume she's the same.

I had a trial run of packing for my forthcoming holiday. We are only taking hand luggage but I managed to make enough outfits for every day with my capsule. Here's hoping I don't spill red wine and bugger everything up! 😂

SO MUCH THIS.

I do notice what people wear but I think lots of people don’t notice at all, I just like clothes and style so I pay attention but not in a judgemental way, just interest. But I wouldn’t see a friend wearing similar things a lot as a negative, i might think “Woolybackswife really knows what colours suit her” for example.

@drspouse glad it’s not just me that has this problem!
