Soolantra application

Do you use this all over your face or just on obviously affected areas?

I’ve just been prescribed Soolantra for rosacea. My cheeks are my problem area, however looking closely at my face I’m now not sure whether my forehead, chin and nose are ‘normal’ after all or whether they might be very slightly affected, as I can see minor bumps and slight redness when I look closely. Because they look fine compared to my cheeks I’ve never really worried about them.

I’m not sure whether to apply it all over just to be sure or whether it will cause problems using it if those areas don’t actually have rosacea…

I’d be grateful for any thoughts or advice - thanks.

Hi, so your doctor thinks you have dermodex mites, which is often a factor in rosacea. I have rosacea too, the type that produces tiny pustules. It's believed that these are caused by the mites, which inhabit the pores of the skin. You need to rub the Soolantra on all of the face, except eyes. The mites can travel! I have had many treatments for the problem, currently on Metrogel (again) which doesn't help at all. The only treatment that has had a very long lasting effect is the 8 week course of low dose antibiotics, which 3 years running has kept my face clear year round. My doc has refused it this time. Good luck with the Soolantra, I've heard good things about it.

I just use it on my cheeks. I think I read online, possibly on the soolantra website, that you should use a pea sized amount for each affected area

Thanks very much for the response, Gorse. That makes sense - I don’t want to leave any mites on the skin! 😳

Sorry to hear that your doctor has refused another course of antibiotics; mine said that if this doesn’t work then they’ll try those but they wanted me to try this first. I hope they’re more helpful next time you go.

Its basically a insecticide, it wont do much to your skin except kill the mites, so you can try a thin layer everywhere at first just to be sure, but I found a thick application on effected areas best. Was amazing for me, got rid of a patch of rosacea Id had for years.

And thanks Blitzen. My cheeks are the obviously affected area but I think I’ve lost sight of what’s normal and I’m not sure if the other areas are. They’re very mildly affected if they are.

I didn’t actually go to see the doctor about my rosacea otherwise I’d have asked at the time - I mentioned my cheeks as an aside and ended up being told what it was and being prescribed the cream, so no time to think about it.

Brilliant - thanks, Ohsugarhoneyicetea. I might do a thick layer on my cheeks and a thin layer elsewhere.

They’ve said to use it for three months and they’ve given me a prescription for three tubes, so I’m guessing I don’t have to scrimp.

I'm glad that you're getting attention from the doctor. My practice has been totally abysmal since the start of the pandemic. I have, over the years, been self medicating with Lyclear cream (it's meant for scabies). It's still an insecticide but available over the counter unlike Soolantra. Personally, I think rosacea is a very complex condition and while controlling the mites definitely can help, there's other stuff going on with it. The low dose antibiotics are given to reduce inflammation, and are the only treatment that's helped me.

sixtiesbaby88 · 12/06/2022 02:49

I used it all over my face, but only a thin layer. One tube lasted a couple of months and it cleared up within weeks, so far never to return. At the same time my blepharitis cleared up, which was an added bonus, even though Soolantra is not applied near eyes

I had the Rozex cream from the doctor that did help but I am now using Dermatica. The texture of Dermatica is much better than the Rozex.
The doctor was really interested in the ingredients and looked them up whilst I was there for my Botox. He is my regular Gp that also does private Botox.
I will be visiting him again soon and will happily show off my new and improved face 😀

Sorry to hear that Gorse.

Thanks sixtiesbaby88, I’m glad it worked for you, and long term too!

And I’m glad you found something that worked for you too Isabelle70.

I think I’ve ignored it for too long but I’m glad I mentioned it after reading up and seeing how much worse it can get.
