Itchy scalp shampoo

Sorry not really stylish or beauty but tips please for an itchy scalp. My scalp is generally sensitive and a lot of shampoos irritate me.

T-Gel isn't cutting it.

I've ordered more Body Shop Ginger but sometimes that doesn't work.

Any great shampoos I'm missing?

Nizoral is the only thing that made a difference with my dds scalp. We tried all sorts of stuff before hand. It's pricey though and dd doesn't wash her daily like me, maybe three times a week. I've just paid £30 for six 60ml bottles on Amazon which works out a bit cheaper than the £6-£6.99 I was paying for individual bottles and sometimes the smaller pharmacies have the 100 ml bottles for £9/10 but it's rare it's in stock.

E45 shampoo at a push can be ok but not for more than one or two use it the itching and flaking starts back up and it then takes ages to settle.

I've got this too and it flares up more when I'm stressed. Three shampoos that work for me are Tricology shampoo Superdrug own brand. Aveeno shampoo oat milk blend or Vosene kids 2in1 shampoo conditioner which has tea tree in it. I currently rotate those three. The Aveeno one is on offer at the moment.

I alternate between head and shoulders and aveda scalp benefit

TheYearOfSmallThings · 09/06/2022 22:51

Oh and Vichy Dercos.

DeeCeeCherry · 09/06/2022 23:03

Ketaconozole - its the only thing that works for me. Brand name is Nizoral. Head & Shoulders Classic Clean or Head & Shoulders Dermaxpro is also quite good apparently

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/06/2022 23:13

The new Head and shoulders one is excellent.

If it's SD, don't let your scalp stay damp - dry it properly

Ohhh this could explain why I'm having a bit of a SD breakout, I let my hair dry naturally in the spring and summer. Thanks!

Yep it's fungal-ish!

Basilbrushgotfat · 09/06/2022 23:59

@Gr33ngr33ngr4ss thanks! I thought it was just because I'd switched from baby shampoo to try something else but that coincides with me letting my hair dry naturally, which can easily take over 24 hours!

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/06/2022 00:01

I have this.

Using quite expensive shampoos is usually fine. The high street is deadly. Philip Kingsley is quite good for clearing it up.

imnottoofussed · 10/06/2022 00:27

I've been using head and shoulders new derma one and also revolution salicylic shampoo both are fantastic. I was using faith in nature from Holland and Barrett that was really good for about a year but then started itching again. So far the other two have been great but I do think they strip my hair dye quicker

Does anyone know if the magoo one is ok for highlighted hair?
I'm not sure if I've read some of them strip the hair of colour?

Pretty sure Moogoo is fine for coloured hair. It's very gentle.

I use moogoo too, it's great. I definitely need to shampoo twice instead of once as it's less sudsy, so if you're finding one go isn't effective add in a second. It's been really great for my scalp.

After going down a google hole about gentle hair/scalp treatments a few days ago I'm now also wondering about doing a hair/scalp mask with greek yogurt. Although the prospect of the smell is putting me off!

applecartsonthehill · 10/06/2022 07:41

I've just used Faith in Nature shampoo , SLS and paraben free. It's really irritated my scalp. I'm wondering if it's because it was quite perfumed 🤔

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/06/2022 09:43

I wasn't impressed with Faith in Nature soap either.

CoralPaperweight · 10/06/2022 11:11

I use Head and Shoulders. Got some from the Drs (betnovate) but didn't do anything for me. SD in my case and increased dryness because of perimenopause.

whereamu · 10/06/2022 16:08

@Summer15coming thank you.

EllaPaella · 10/06/2022 21:44

Nizarol is good and is £5 a bottle for Tesco clubcard holders at the moment. I like T-gel but the clear one, not the brown one. L'oreal used to do a really good shampoo that came in a dark green bottle but sadly I don't think they sell it anymore.

FreeButtonBee · 10/06/2022 21:46

Philip Kingsley itchy flaky scalp shampoo- it’s now really expensive but I’ve used it for the last 12 years and will never give it up. Soo good

a more reasonable priced option is Seneca anti dandruff but it’s not as good. The PK is amazing

Gingerbreadcandle · 10/06/2022 21:53

I had this until I stopped using shampoo with Sodium laureath sulfate and parabens in, I now use ones without, usually organic like Aveeno or faith in nature.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 10/06/2022 22:54

I use the Phillip Kingsley itchy scalp one but I still need to wash my hair daily to keep the itch at bay.

If I was every day I don't have an itch but if I leave it even a second day the itch drives me insane.

I don't remember my head being like this always, only the last year I'd say. I can't figure out what it is at all that's causing it.

I tried head and shoulders, Vichy dercos and one from Umberto Gianni but finally stumped up the cost for the litre bottle of PK after the sample worked really well.

I also have a scalp treatment from the Inkey List which I like too, I'm sure it's Salicylic acid one.
