How to stop black trousers [pic]

Pic on the left = Brand new.

Pic on the right = A few months old.

After a few washes, I always find that the nice deep black colour on the left fades into the lighter, murkier colour on the right.

Up close, there’s lots of little tiny white hairs, which seem to come out of the fabric itself.

I wash with similar colours, use a lint roller and try to extend the time between washes as long as politely possible.

Does anyone manage to keep their black clothes a nice deep black for a long time and if so how do you do it!? 🙈

I found switching to the 'Colour' detergents really helped with this. I think they have less bleach in them?

i have been using surf for black cloths for a few years, but I can’t find it anymore we’re are you buying it from. It’s great for dark cloths.

How old is your washing machine? Years ago lots of my clothes were wearing badly then my machine broke and I got a new one, oh my goodness the difference was amazing, the old machine had been sort of roughing them up, new machine washed things a lot more gently if that makes sense.

You need a shorter gentler cycle - the white fibres are the wear that a long vigourous cycle creates. Does your machine have a delicates cycle (as opposed to a wool one)? If not, try using a shorter cycle on 30. A pod will get your clothes clean no matter what cycle you use.

No good for patterned trousers and possibly no good for viscose, but I dye my black clothes when they fade. Makes them really black again and it's really easy

If the black is printed on then ime nothing will stop this happening. I avoid buying things that the inside of the garment is white for this reason.

You can also get colour reviver sheets- they look like colour catchers, but sort of work the other way around. I haven't tried them on prints though.

@Nanalisa60 I got a box of 28 bottles off of Amazon which has lasted me ages, I am on the last bottle now tho so I hope it hasn’t been discontinued. I did buy a Waitrose own brand version once on holiday after a travel sick incident and that was just as good but didn’t really have much smell, I think it was £3 a bottle.
