Small yellow bumps near eye - how to have removed?

I have two tiny whitish/yellow lumps beneath my eye, they could well be cholesterol related as mine is quite high. Does anyone have any experience of having these removed? How did you go about it? Even if my cholesterol was to lower, I doubt these would suddenly drop off!

They are really getting on my nerves now and they are slightly unsightly.

I dabbed mine with tea tree oil and they were gone in a couple of days.

What were they?

I had a Xanthelasma removed privately by a surgeon last year. You can't get rid of them yourself, they're not like millia...
I'm so glad I had it done as I was always conscious of it and hated seeing it in photos. I think it cost around £350 all in with consultation etc but was completely worth it!

@HollyHocks13 what did they do?

I saw a specialist a few years ago & they said they coukd remove them, BUT they had to cut them out & the scar would be wirse that they are now! Plus since then I've had some operations (unrelated) & I don't heal well from surgery stitches or small incisions. So I'm doubly reluctant to have them cut out, but if it was syringe or lazer or something I'd be up for it. Totally.

JuneJubilee · 05/06/2022 00:27

Oh & I had used a needle on them previously but he said not to as you can do a lot of damage!!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 05/06/2022 00:28

I was told my Xanthelesmia would need surgery to remove but they have gone in time. Years rather than months. Mine weren't cholesterol related as I don't have high levels.

Iloveychildrenandmydoggie · 05/06/2022 00:32

Have had them for years…not cholesterol related..I personally have just ignored them and absolutely no one has noticed them .

MarmiteCoriander · 05/06/2022 00:36

Without an actual pic, I would ask what specialist you have already seen about these??? GP, Dermatologist, specialist? If not, then see them now rather than asking randoms on MN to guess what on earth you are referring to!

What were they?

I don’t know? 🤷‍♀️ Two white spots on my eyelid. Disappeared and never returned.

Cassavaflower · 05/06/2022 06:57

I had these ten years ago. I read that baby shampoo wiped over them gets rid. It did and they have never come back.

Slit with a razor
Please don't go near your eyes with a razor blade!

DreamloverTealover · 05/06/2022 11:02

Watching with interest for a pic as I think I've got similar to what you're saying.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 05/06/2022 12:27

Thanks for all responses - pic later as just going out. As @DrRuthGalloway said there's nothing to pop. Won't be going near my eyes with a razor so no worries there! If it was milia (which I've had previously) I'd be doing the needle thing, as I do love a good poke. But, it defininitely isn't.

@HopingForMyRainbowBaby - possibily more like that, yes, though at outer corner of my eye.

I try to use a hot wash cloth on them in the shower

I remember a Gap advising this

Any ideas as to getting them removed. Where do you go?

JuneOsborne · 05/06/2022 12:44

I have them, and hate them too. Don't have high cholesterol either, but my mum had them, so I'm guessing they're a genetic thing in my case.

Dr David Cheung removes them, if you look at his website, he goes through the various ways you can get them removed. Not cheap though.

I try and cover mine up with makeup. It means I always have to wear eyeshadow.

They are not whiteheads, milia, cysts or blepharitis type things, and none of the remedies for this things will work.

HollyHocks13 · 05/06/2022 14:28

@JuneJubilee I had mine cut out by the surgeon. He said that was better than laser removal which doesn't necessarily take all of it away so there's a risk it will come back. I was also warned about scarring but it's a tiny silver line which you can barely see (and my xanthelasmata was quite big and in an awkward area). It was definitely worth doing for me.

emmacor · 16/07/2024 23:44

I had one just below my eyebrow from childhood until I was 30, I thought it was just a birthmark and my GP said if I had it removed my eyelid could droop.

I did end up taking a pin to it myself one evening..Took a lot of poking and prodding to get the hole big enough, but you can squeeze it out if you're determined enough!!! It's like a hardened yellow pus, and I had to do it a few times in different places because it sort of had different pockets to it. Swollen and sore eyelid for a few days, but it's gone minus a few tiny bits that aren't noticeable, and my eyelid didn't sag either!!! 😀
