Hello I can’t believe I’ve lived all my life with the terrible acne I have on my back shoulders and chest. I just have to find clothes that cover me. It’s definitely better in warmer weather.

I now have a lot of scars. Can anyone recommend a body wash? I’ve bought Zisticka which is helping a bit.

Why a body wash specifically?

I would recommend acnecide gel instead. It works.

CHiSOCG · 03/06/2022 12:13

I used to suffer like this and for years I spent ££££ on all sorts of acne-targeting problems. None of them solved the problem.

A GP prescribing medication did.

So I'm going to say see your gp, push for meds and let them know how much it affects you.

I’m so ridiculously scarred! My mum bought me a lovely jumper recently and I felt sad telling her I couldn’t wear it. Think she’d forgotten how bad my scarring is.

@Basilbrushgotfat what medication?

Have you tried going on the pill? Or roaccutane? You don’t have to put up with it.

ScrambledSmegs · 03/06/2022 12:22

If you're not taking it already, a high daily dose of Vitamin D may help bring down inflammation with your existing acne. I also take Vitamin K to aid with absorption but both of these were on the advice of my GP so do speak to a professional before medicating yourself, even with 'just' vitamins.

I found that my skin wasn't as thin and delicate after taking it so fewer random bruises and cuts as well, and I heal at a more normal speed. However it means I have to exfoliate more.

My friend has had quite good results from laser treatment on her acne scarring, although it isn't cheap.

CHiSOCG · 03/06/2022 12:26

I can’t go on a dual pill (mixed pill). Due to my weight. would a mini pill work? The acne is my back and shoulders and scarred me over the years.

roaccutne - I worry about side affects

Try salycilic acid soap bar about £5 on amazon, it worked wonders for my son

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/06/2022 13:25

Don’t use the mini pill, it promotes oil. Is it only the scarring now? No active acne?

CHiSOCG · 03/06/2022 13:30

I still get spots. White heads often quite angry. Not loads but quite a lump with a head on them - sorry if tmi. I also get blackheads on my back (my husband said).

sometimes I wonder what he finds attractive. Stretch marks from pregnancy - stretch marks and acne scars on my shoulders Chest and back. And keloid scars from other surgery. My skin seems to scar easily.

I took anti biotics, there are different types they can try you on and refer you to dermatology if you need further treatment. Acne is a legitimate medical condition that takes a hard toll on sufferers, doctors can help.

BlossomWood · 03/06/2022 13:46

Scents in body washes/ soaps can really aggravate the skin causing breakouts. If I go to the gym/ hotel and forget my body wash and use theirs you can guarantee I get spots on my back/ chest/ Shoulders. Have a look for shower gel/ body wash that is unscented and see how you get on. Use a flannel to gently exfoliate.

BlossomWood · 03/06/2022 13:51

But failing that use acnecide/ benzyol peroxide (I think you can get a wash version of it) . I've reached 39 and still have to use this on my neck/ jaw area. I was on the pill, Marvelon, which worked beautifully but when I came off it a few years ago my jaw area broke out with a vengeance. (I didn't go back on the pill as my mental health improved lots coming off it so made the decision that my MH was more important than my skin)

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/06/2022 14:00

Doctors then, a course of antibiotics or a topical might be all you need.

ouch321 · 03/06/2022 14:07

Sympathies, I'm vampire pale and everything shows on my skin, every bite, every spot, every scratch.

Someone was raving about a soap on Amazon about 5 quid a few months back which resolved their problem.

Don't be scared of Roac. I've done it, on a low dose for just a few months (long story) having suffered from cystic acne. V rarely get cycsts now.
Barely noticed side effects just made sure I had lots of blue Nivea and lip balm about. Side effects tend only to be v bad if u go down the high dose route.

CHiSOCG · 03/06/2022 17:25

Thank you everyone I’ll be going to the GP. It’s just something else making me misrerable! Just wish I had gorgeous unmarked skin

Good luck, op. I completely get how upsetting it is but better to go with effective treatment than continue wasting money.

Mol1628 · 03/06/2022 19:01

You’re doing the right thing. Proper acne needs GP treatment nothing you can buy will help.

18e6281o62 · 04/06/2022 23:05

I've got on well with La Roche Posay Effaclar Micro Peeling Face and Body gel. There's often 25% off.

But agree with others re. GP. Good luck!

Nouveaunew · 04/06/2022 23:30

An appointment with a dermatologist would be money well spent. Best of luck @CHiSOCG

Rainraingoaway21 · 10/06/2022 23:24

@CHiSOCG hi OP, I just wanted to recommend the supplements my dd16 has started taking. They were recommended by someone on MN but I can't remember which thread it was on!

They're called Skin Accumax.

They're quite expensive £40 for 60 pills, but after just 10 days we can see a huge improvement! I noticed her face was looking quite clear, she said she had noticed her chest was too, I asked to check her back and that has cleared considerably as well! I'm so pleased for her and just wanted to share with any fellow sufferers!

She has taken roaccutane before with amazing results but it was starting to creep back again. The contraceptive pill also helped but made her moods terrible and she gained weight quickly, so she wanted a more natural route. Prior to all this she had tried 3 different antibiotics, not to mention all the topical treatments, nothing worked that well.

These vitamins have had no side effects at all and can only do you good I guess. We are excited to see continued good results and wanted to share as know how upsetting dealing with acne can be.
