Wedding dress code - ‘trendy’ ????????

JangolinaPitt · 26/05/2022 14:13

What do I wear?
Context is afternoon/evening summer
Gsy marriage (two men in their 40s)
Guests apart from family mostly men.
I am 50s/size 10…
Normally dress youngish so anything will do but what the hell does it mean?
(And yes, I will ask them for examples but guess they are only thinking about male attire….)

Message the grooms and ask

I doubt they mean what is "de rigour" right now in fashion circles ie those hideous cottagecore dresses. Gay "trendy" i would assume means funky, bright, a bit glitzy, glam etc. I would imagine I was going on a night out in manchester's gay village!
If you fancy a dress I'd be thinking something like these :

Or this purple velvet Norma Kamali jumpsuit:

I LOVE these. Not sure about the black but either of the others would be perfect.
I so want to be invited to a 'trendy' wedding now!

Chubarubrub · 27/05/2022 11:34

I think I’d wear a jumpsuit and flats, dress codes are confusing!

'Trendy' is a word I use, but I don't think it's used by people who really are trendy Grin

I would just go for your most 'young' outfit that's suited to a wedding.

Like describing something as "classy"? I agree!

Not a helpful term OP and I can see why you want to check.

TheVeryThing · 27/05/2022 11:49

Agree that it's a very wanky thing to put on a wedding invitation.
Jumpsuit is a good idea, also maybe a trouser suit in a very bright colour? They seem to be really 'in' at the moment.

BrieAndChilli · 27/05/2022 12:44

Trendy at the moment judging by taking teen DD clothes shopping is brown/biege baggy shapeless clothes! its bloody awful!

Dress codes for weddings can fuck off.

I like you. Are you married? Grin

I have a dress code for absolutely every single occasion - wear whatever the fuck you want.

I definitely think you're right with a jumpsuit but also think you should have one absolutely bonkers accessory... like a child's lunchbox for a bag or something.
If questioned, you'd just raise an elegant eyebrow and say: "But the invitation said... Oh! Perhaps this is just too cutting edge; I do love stealth chic though".

Lol @ the lunchbox 😀😀😀😀😀

Terrible dress code!

But this would fit the bill and be fun to wear.

Oh yes!!!!!!!!😀

Had a dress similar to this one for the last summer wedding I addended. Fashionable/ chic but comfortable as it covered shoulders. Dressed it up with nude heals, gold necklace and earrings. Got lots of compliments. I’m in my mid-late 20s

If the guests are mainly men as you say maybe they are just trying to avoid their wedding photos being a sea of drab dark suits? I agree with pp a jumpsuit could work. Or a suit in a bold colour if you feel the cold.

eurochick · 28/05/2022 04:20

I'd say it just means you can step away from the smart dress and fascinating type typically wedding outfits. A jumpsuit is a great idea.

erinaceus · 28/05/2022 04:41

I would take it to mean something that is not the mother-of-the-bride, matching-suit-and-hat type outfit.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 28/05/2022 05:46

Paperbag waistlines are very in right now.
So you could wear a silk camisole or a silky top tucked into paperbag trousers with a nice skinny belt, heels and a bag.
The 'trendy' thing would put me right off though!

AuntieMarys · 28/05/2022 06:23

No fascinators or pashminas

DreamloverTealover · 28/05/2022 09:34

I definitely think a jumpsuit would be great with wedges for summer look and no hats or fascinators (fat sisters - on other thread 😂)

Noisedownstairs · 28/05/2022 10:50

Jumpsuit is challenging for all day wear - the loo challenge has always put me off.
I think trendy just means you can ignore the usual traditional wedding dress code and wear whatever you like.

100%.

How about something like this… reminds me of the same cut as a Vampires Wife dress but a fraction of the cost.

I do like that but I bought something from that site a few years ago and had to return it and the denied all knowledge of the return were unhelpful and wouldn’t refund so won’t buy from them again (never had any problems with other sites)

Trendy to me means Madonna in her Desperately Seeking Susan period, so corset, tonnes of jewellery, baggy trousers and plenty of lace in your hair 😁

Lookingoutside · 26/05/2022 23:04

Jumpsuit, heals, big earrings, bright lipstick.

Would also fit the bill for an 80s themed wedding, which might not be quite what they had in mind!
