Soft face cloths for removing makeup

missmoon · 25/05/2022 09:57

I’m looking for a soft face cloth for using with cream cleanser to remove makeup.

Needs to be soft as I’ve damaged my skin with Liz Earle cloths (too exfoliating for my older skin!).

Would be grateful for any recommendations as I can’t seem to find the right thing. All I can see is microfibre cloths (too abrasive) or smaller reusable pads (I’ve tried this but they are a pain to wash).

I like the look of Japanese facial sponges like this one, but they are quite expensive at £10 each, as I probably need 4-5 so I can wash regularly: tinyurl.com/yvahtuya

thank you!

I just use basic towelling flannels. I wash them with fabric softener added and tumble dry so they come out soft & fluffy. I tend to stock up on the ones from Ikea they sell them in packs of 5/6 and they're so handy.

FiveNineFive · 25/05/2022 11:31

Brushworks make nice ones

SheilaWilde · 25/05/2022 11:39

I buy the flannels from the children's dept in IKEA, 10 for £4 I think. They're quite soft and wash well but I don't use soap/cleanser just water so I don't know how they'd work with cleanser. Or how about muslin cloths?

KimWexlersPonyTail · 25/05/2022 11:44

Look in the baby section in Boots and supermarkets for bamboo cloths, if suitable for new born I assume suitable for me. Tropic do a nice bamboo cloth but £5.00 i think.

I got some super soft and squidgy 100% cotton facecloths from Primark last week - £2.50 for 4.

Thank you so much everyone, will have a look at all the suggestions!

Ive bought a load of cheeky wipes - cotton flannels but smaller size :-)

FrenchMustard · 25/05/2022 12:48

Cheeky wipes reusable make up wipes are amazing and so soft

FictionalCharacter · 25/05/2022 12:56

If you’re actually damaging your skin with Liz Earle cloths I would think you’re rubbing too hard.
I have some very soft cotton squares that were originally for the baby - washable wipes. Can’t remember where I bought them but you might be able to get soft cloths sold for this. Mine are lovely - feel like normal cotton one side and soft / slightly fluffy the other side.

@FictionalCharacter Yes, sadly, I think that's what I did, after using them without a problem for years. All due to lockdown-related stress, I think I scrubbed too hard without really noticing.

Fleece flannels for babies. I think I got mine for Poundland. Muslin is far too harsh for my skin too OP.

MushyPeasPrincess · 25/05/2022 15:13

Tropic do bamboo cloths that are so soft and wash very well. Last ages.

Brillenbar47 · 25/05/2022 15:55

Bamboo cloths - lots available on Amazon - and they stay much whiter than cotton flannels as a bonus

DeadButDelicious · 25/05/2022 16:03

I use microfiber cloths from primark and swear by them, they remove every scrap of make up and cleanser from my face and wash really well. They are super soft and a good size. £2.50 for 3.

MadAngryCry · 25/05/2022 16:05

Another Cheeky Wipes baby flannels here. I actually bought them in case we ran out of toilet paper in Lockdown 1 Grin
They're the perfect size for the face (we never did run out of loo roll, thankfully!)

Triffid1 · 25/05/2022 16:05

I buy basic cotton face cloths from wherever I happen to be. Habitat at Sainsbury's is where I get them from mostly as that's local - but I'm always on the lookout for ones that are different colours etc so will pick up at department stores or places like TK Maxx if I spot them too. Recommendation is to use a fresh one daily. I tend to do same one for two days in a row. Wash in a hot wash with towels/bedding and tumble dry to keep soft. After a while, like any well used towel, they become less soft/absorbent at which point they are used more by the children who just sort of vaguely wave them at their face and then, once totally worn through, they are repurposed as cleaning cloths.

These are all brilliant suggestions, thank you so much!

I asked the same question on there a couple of years ago and someone recommended these washable flannels. They're a quick dry material and it's bizarre, but they remove every trace of make-up when wet. Then you wash them, and they go back to the way they were, zero mascara stains or anything. I can't find the exact brand I bought, but this is the sort of thing:

Simply Gone Make Up Remover Cloth. Reusable Microfibre Face Cloth removes all makeup, even waterproof mascara. Ideal for Sensitive Skin. (2 Pack Grey & Sunset Purple) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08122VJ7B/ref=cmswwrcppapiiiACJERJVZXA16AA0REXQ1?encoding=UTF8&psc=1

purplesequins · 25/05/2022 19:40

yes to flannels from the baby section.
muslin type fabric is very soft.

the ikea ones I find quite scratchy though.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/05/2022 19:45

I got some from my little eco shop. They come with a lovely wooden holder too.

Doorhandleghost · 25/05/2022 20:12

I also use the micro fibre cloths from primark. You can pay £££ for exactly the same thing though, deffo get the primark ones. Soft as anything and also remove makeup with just warm water. I do that then use cleanser to get rid of any leftover.

IrishMamaMia · 25/05/2022 20:26

A recent convert to cheeky wipes for my face. Bought them for wiping the kids faces but they are so good for my own that I've just ordered some more. It's the plush ones in particular that I love for makeup removal :)
