Shoes for the summer - what are people wearing?

I usually wear trainers or Birkenstocks in the summer but I would like a pair to wear that are still flat and comfortable but more like shoes. Not fabric as I live in Scotland and rain is always just round the corner, but to be worn with bare feet. I have loads of pumps but they just look wrong now. I am approaching 60 so I am not looking for super trendy. Just comfortable and a little stylish. What are people wearing? I am going to Edinburgh this weekend and would like to have some idea of what I am looking for. Thanks

Avoiding fabric: Look for closed toe sandals. I also have some tan-colour, colour block ballet flats, or plain ballet flats.

Maybe solillas?

ApolloandDaphne · 24/05/2022 16:09

Solillas look nice but too open at the back and toe. I want a closed shoe but a summery, light one.

I have fisherman sandals in tan

What about wotsits, huarache are they called? I've been looking at them as my toes are not for human consumption (as it were)

These are the ones I have. Super comfortable.

I remember seeing closed toe sandals In Seasalt. I don't know how summery they look, though.

I will be participating in the triumphant resurgence of the ballet pump.

I have a pair of Clark’s closed toe sandals (Henderson luck is the style name) which are summery to me but I don’t have to have polished toenails, and they have a slight heel so much nicer to wear than sandals with a thin flat sole.

I think I may have to do this. I have loads of pairs and it seem mad really to buy more shoes.

Birkenstock Boston? They’re the clog one’s - they’re everywhere this year. Bit marmite though so depends on your style, I like mine - I’m also in Scotland so they work - they’re a bit summery but not too summery!

Otherwise a light trainer - as in lightweight/light colour? (I have previously had the Converse Dainty but in canvas so not quite what you’re after if you want to avoid something that isn’t great in the rain!)

I have those in black and a pair in tan. They're lovely and comfortable aren't they.

I think they're no longer made?

Every online review I’ve seen said they’re comfortable, but they give me blisters 🙊 I think they’re pretty so I’m trying to persevere and break them in.
