Flares / trousers that drag on the floor

I have little to no fashion sense and I'm trying to curate a stylish wardrobe, I've stumbled across some fashion bloggers on tiktok and trousers like these seem to be a theme.

Does anybody here wear anything like this?

How do the trousers not end up shredded to ribbons being dragged across the pavement and stepped on constantly?

No hate intended to the lady in the picture, I think she looks fabulous.

I'm short so that's a frequent occurrence. I have so many pairs of trousers with shredded hems which just get soaked in puddles. Skinny jeans and gym leggings were a revelation.

I wore them like that in the 70s and they did get shredded to ribbons.

Looks like she is too short to wear them, and needs the hems taken up! They also look dangerous! I had a flowy pair of palazzo trousers- but when I walked up stairs, I'd always step on them and nearly fall. And yes- they would get filthy dragging on the ground.

Fellow short person here, so for that reason I avoid anything flared that covers the shoes.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. I love that outfit but the trousers wouldn't survive a couple of wears for me. Imagine a day out in a city wearing them, they'd be trashed by the end of the day.

God forbid they cost a fortune aswell.

I think it’s just dirty and impractical to have trousers that constantly drag on the pavement / are continually stepped on.

Victoria Beckham wears trousers like that. I can only assume she gets by with a mixture of vertiginous heels, only actually walking in them for very short distances, and constant dry cleaning and tailoring.

How long did they last you?

For sure, I just know I would go flying.

She's wearing heels under them too. Eeek.

I do like the style, if they could be taken up a few inches I'd quite like to wear them.

That makes alot of sense.

The upkeep required to wear them, keep them looking tidy and go about her daily business must be alot!

Yeah I wore trousers and jeans like that in the 90s and they too shredded and got filthy. And when it rained the water soaked up your leg. Yuck. Fortunately for grunge kids it didn’t matter. Might matter more now.

Floisme · 22/05/2022 17:18

I think they're code for 'my chauffeur's picking me up'.

TheOGCCL · 22/05/2022 21:43

This trend is called ‘puddle pants’ which is ironic given how you’d get on if there were rain puddles

IheartJKRowling · 22/05/2022 22:07

I used to wear my Miss Sixty flared jeans like that in the 90's. I stood on them continuously and did indeed shred the hems.

I would have to check the weather before I left the house and if it rained the jeans would soak up the water to knee level and become so heavy they were falling down because they were low rise hipsters 😂

Total fashion victim!

I've decided that wide leg trousers are my current cut of choice. I bought 2 pairs from Oliver Bonas and I LOVE them. I'm 5'4" and they sit just above my ankle. The cut is excellent for my shape and very flattering

IstayedForTheFeminism · 22/05/2022 22:15

I've got a pair of trousers that fit like that. I do think they're meant to, they are meant to be loose fit I think. But yet are slightly too big, so baggy rather than loose. And far too long because I can't be arsed to turn them up.

I always get compliments when I wear them even though I think they are so big they probably look silly and only wear them when I haven't got any clean jeans/I'm going to a funeral!

Yes @iheartJKRowling, that was me.

I still have a flared pair of jeans (my mum wore when she was 20, so nearly 45 years old) that looked imaculate, put on tiny me and they are starting to shred at the bottom and indeed soak up all the muddy puddles, but i love them with wedged trainers or high heels.
