If you hair is below your shoulders...

how do you style it on a daily basis? Mine is wavy, a little frizzy, and I usually do a half-up with a claw clip. I do wish I could do something different though that made me feel more put together. I feel so frumpy with this boring 'hair style', especially in video calls. But I do prefer long hair to shorter (ironically it's easier to style) so no suggestions to go for the chop please. Just ideas for simple styles that you can do quickly in the morning before work. Thank you.

I have a little feathering at the front and always a centre parting.

I tidy my hair by brushing it and then work some Loreal 'no haircut cream" through the ends with my fingers. Smells great and looks great (I have fine hair btw and it doesn't make it look greasy at all).

I then tend to tuck it behind my ears and because I have feathering at the front the front strands look wavy when they fall forward.

Sometimes I use a hair claw to put it half or completely up, always leaving a little strands out at the front.

Braids? (Half) pony tail? Bun?

GuybrushT · 20/05/2022 16:57

My hair is similar to yours OP but currently a bit shorter. I find if I centre part it then french plait down each side and pull the rest into a low bun it works well.

I have a GHD glide which I run through my hair in the morning after I've washed my hair the night before. Is super quick and leaves my hair smooth and neat but not 'ironed straight'

jammyrose · 20/05/2022 17:00

Airwrap. Use it to dry after washing and then ‘top up’ whichever style I’ve picked on non-hairwash days which takes 5 mins.

I use either the smaller barrels for curls/waves or the bobbly brush to dry straight.

It’s one of the best things I’ve bought in terms of time saving/life hacks. So much less of a chore and no longer need to style after drying. I don’t work for Dyson, I promise!

Failing that - loose wavy ponytail!

Thanks for this,op, I could have written your post!

Ooh, I like the claw clip thing. It's pretty, keeps my hair out of my face in summer and can be worn messy or neat.

I too have wavy fizzy hair, but it smooths out much better if I wash with water filter jug. A tad arsey but worth it once or twice a week. The great thing about having hair with movement is how many styles we can try out.
I sometimes wear it loose. When I do I will let it air dry, brush it, then lightly twist a straightener through to make even waves. Or dry in a plait and wear as it is.

I also like to wear a half knot instead of a ponytail, or a more neat chignon at the nape of my neck.
Not all hair needs to be constantly loose to look lovely. It's just a myth peddled by the media and fashion that associates hair - femininity with sexuality.

I would love to wear a french braid but i don't think it suits me.

trilobiterevival · 20/05/2022 17:34

Also, the most 'work' i put in at any time is when I let air dry. I don't understand people who say styling is arduous or takes up too much time because letting air dry takes longer, surely!?

I tend to let it dry (it's fine so dries quickly) then sometimes run a hot brush through it to tame the frizz. And that's it. If I use a tool to create waves it takes me all of 5 mins.
Unless hair is very long and thick, I don't get the time argument really. I never spend more than 5-10 styling hair. It's quicker than filing my nails.

Also - sorry, my last post Grin I found curly girl the most time consuming and overrated thing of all. It really didn't work for me.

RibNSaucyArseCrack · 20/05/2022 17:39

Now that I actually look after my curls I just wear it down, leave it to air dry. Such a revelation after years of wrestling with it! I thought I had wavy hair but it’s actually really curly now that I know what to do with it and I’ve stopped straightening it!

jackstini · 20/05/2022 17:44

I do bathrobe belt or sick bun curls - just go to bed with it damp, wake up and done
Lasts for 3 days, slightly less curly each day

Straighten it occasionally or blow dry it well with the Umburto straightening balm and it will last for 3 days too

If I want it up, I twist and clip with some coming out the top

ThisMammaCat · 20/05/2022 18:05

I like a side plait, quick & easy

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 20/05/2022 18:27

Unless your hair is ridiculously thick straightening it doesn't really need sectioning. Literally do what you are doing now, half up, run a pair of straighteners through the bottom section, don't separate the hair just run it through like a brush, then put the top bit down and do the same.

For putting it up there are ways to tie your hair back without it just being brushed back. I tend to do the two strand twist that can be done on one side or both and tied into a half up half down, or twisted and tied back into a pony tail. This all depends on how dexterous you are. It is just a bit of practice. This is the two strand twist, it looks harder than it actually is.

Also just look on YouTube for easy updo hairstyles and see what works for your hair. I find it easier to straighten mine even though I have wavy hair naturally as the whole curly girl hair method is a pain in the arse. I tend to wash my hair at night, put product in and leave it to dry naturally then straighten it the next day or dyson airwrap curl it or put it up, depends what I am doing.
