Skincare beginner at 30(!) Advice please

As the title says really... I am 30 and haven't got a proper skincare routine, but would really like to start taking better care of myself. I have a few bits and bobs, but mostly just use water on my face. I don't wear any makeup (and have no plans to in the foreseeable). My skin seems to be quite normal - not greasy, not dry. It's pretty good really, considering how neglected it is! Wise mumsnetters, where do I start please? Really I'm after recommendations for cleansers and moisturisers that might suit me, I think.

If your skin is doing well, what's the need? I don't think it can be coincidence that a skincare 'routine' is suddenly being pushed on everyone given it requires purchasing more and more products and layering them to achieve what it sounds like you're fortunate to already have OP. A lot of people would kill to be able to splash water on their face and it still look good, or be able to go makeup free without insecurity (I know I would!)

I would suggest to wear SPF if you don't is all, something with a high factor but a light formula designed for the face.

Make sure you use an spf on your face.

Thank you both - yes SPF is a good shout. It was actually putting suncream on the other day that made me think of this! Also conscious that I'm getting older and might get fewer wrinkles if I start looking after my skin now Smile

I wouldn't over complicate it unless you enjoy using products and having a facial massage etc.

If you're using Spf you should really remove it with a cleanser, Inky List Oat Milk is a good one or if you like Scents I can recommend something else.

If your skin is good and you are happy I wouldn't over complicate it (and I speak as someone with a full "routine" who loves a variety of products).

Having said that, a moisterizer and spf would be a good idea. The Body Shop vitamin c spf is very good and is actually a good moisterizer unless your skin is v v dry.

I would also suggest a proper clean at night and possibly a light moisterizer then. Just some micellar water as a cleanser would be good (wiped over fave with cotton pad), then any light moisterizer. Doesn't need to be expensive. I use nivea or neutrogena a lot.
