Thinning hair, wig?

I was wondering if anyone had opted to start wearing a wig due to thinning hair? long story short my hair has been falling out for a while now.
overall it is very thin and I have a few sparse patches. Currently investigating the cause but I'm guessing it is likely from extreme stress and having covid previously.

I don't want to keep colouring my hair and even with extensions it doesn't look nice anymore. I've ordered a custom coloured, human hair lace front wig but worried about carrying it of and looking good in it. Has anyone been in a similar situation and done similar and decided they love wigs I'm worried that when it comes I'm going to be to anxious to wear it out. Would love to hear others experiences x

No personal experience, but a lady in my village fits hair systems for women with thinning hair.
They look amazing and apparently your own hair grows underneath.
Hope you find something that works

I have just started wearing a wig, lost my hair during chemo. Below is the link to the company my hospital uses.
I absolutely love my wig, once it's on I don't feel like I'm wearing one.

I also take thyroxine for a low thyroid and my hair was very thin, I wish I'd got a wig sooner. Good luck OP.

I’ve been wearing wigs off and on for 40 years, since I lost it all at 18. It’s mostly fine. If it’s too hot I just go without to be honest and slap on the makeup instead. Bald Mother Tucker on Insta is great for inspiration.

Glad to hear you find wearing one ok, yeah I follow her on instagram already she's great I agree

I need to look into this because I don't actually know how hair systems work to be honest. I am trying to be cautious about what I do because I'm getting a lot of hair fall even from brushing, will have to have a read up thank you for the suggestion

Sending best wishes to you for your treatment journey,
Thats really reassuring that you feel it's comfortable and like how it looks.
The wigs you've linked look good. I have a feeling if I like how my new wig looks on me it's going to be really tempting to not keep buying new styles constantly Grin

Thanks, I get another wig in October and at the moment have 7 that I really like.... the hard part is making a choice.
The most surprising thing is how shiny it is, I've gone for a silver bob which is very similar to my own hair. Also if it gets wet it just dries in the style it is.
When I think of the hours I've spent infront of a mirror doing my hair, and if you add up what you spend on hairdressers etc it's probably saving money too 😀

My hair over the years has become a lot thinner. No idea why. Am planning to see a trichologist (?) to try and sort it but am so embarrassed by it. Have even considered a transplant but I’m wondering if a wig might be the way forward.

I've posted various photographs of my wigs over the years. I started wearing one when I posted a photograph asking opinions on a dress and received a lot of critic about the hairpiece I had at the time!! Post chemo. I'm interested in where you're all getting your wigs from, if you don't mind sharing?

catzrulz · 24/05/2022 20:32

This is where I'm getting mine during chemo on the NHS, you can order from the website though which is what I'll do post chemo.
