Bra for cracked ribs?

I have cracked ribs and a very tender rib cage which means I can't tolerate a bra at the moment. It was ok in the colder weather as I wore at shirt and massive hoodie, but now the weather has changed I'm a bit stuck. I'm a size 14 and have tried crop top things in a size 18, along with halter bikini tops, bras with a bigger back size, even crop tops where I've cut all away round the band to make it more bearable, but nothing is comfortable for more than about ten minutes. It's not just my ribs but also a shoulder blade that starts to hurt. Any suggestions please?

I wear the sloggi zero feel bralettes but I’m about a 30G (wear medium) - what size are you? They’re super comfy, but maybe if you have big boobs then it’s the weight of them that is making everything you’ve tried hurt 😕

I bought this one

I went braless for a few weeks

Poor you, that pain is awful! Why do you want to wear a bra - I don't mean that to sound rude, I genuinely mean is it for support/better fit for clothes/cover nipples etc?

I couldn't wear a bra with bad ribs, but I rarely wear one anyway, only for certain outfits...to keep clothes in place (I'm thinking of things like halter neck summer dresses) you can get "tit tape" (hate that name!), or stick on nipple covers for thin fabrics. I wear a lot of empire line dresses in Summer, not so much fitted stuff, so lack of a bra isn't so obvious.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable about bras will be more helpful Grin but I sympathise with the sore ribs, my only other advice would be, when you can get back to wearing bras, a front fastening one is a lot easier to get on/off.

A bra is a ‘control’ garment so suspect even the lightest of support will aggravate the crack, forcing the bone that’s trying to heal to move (grate) against each other. If you can tolerate it,

What about a vest? A ribbed one like this will give you a little support and hopefully not put too much pressure on your tender parts.

Mrsjayy · 18/05/2022 16:42

Go bravest get a few vests with support I recommend primark

Mrsjayy · 18/05/2022 16:43

I wear asda brunettes the shoulders don't get heavy.

BruceAndNosh · 18/05/2022 16:52

I only cracked one rib but I could tolerate very unstructured bralettes. After it healed, I never went back to underwires which I had worn happily for yonks.
I second the suggestion of a ribbed vest

PickAChew · 18/05/2022 17:02

It depends how large and firm your breasts are. I get no support from a vest.

My ribs are inclined to pop out of joint and I've taken to wearing a too large sports bra - enough to hold them down, even if it doesn't hold them up that much and it has a fastener so I don't have to wrestle myself in and out of it. I still get some pain from it but not as much as an underwired bra.

I like the look of that bravissimo one.

Bralettes obviously 🙄

Thank you all that's very helpful. I'll try the bravissimo one and tall the other suggestions too! I want to be able to wear a dress without looking like a lunatic 😁
